"The standard here is ... different." Finn said, his tone kind and careful, as he hovers over his Caw-fee. It is the local delicacy and he is doing his best to warm up to it, even as he winces over a sip; terribly sweet and wildly bitter all at once. His heart thrums in response to the caffeine.

"It's being slaughtered. That's what it is." Snap returns, indignant. They're sitting outside a local water hole, taking a break from unpacking an entire base; at this rate they'd be going for weeks.

"I don't know. I think its rather ... charming." Rey admits, her hands grasping the cup of Caw-fee gratefully; its very different than water. Its not good, but its not bad. She likes it all the same.

"You mean its chah-ming." Poe grins; he's well into his fifth or sixth cup and he's beginning to like this planet.

"Yeah, and the girls here are wicked hawt." Jessika snorts into her Caw-fee, voice dropping into the low cadence of a local.

"I figured it out -" Pow says, his thought cut off by the aftertaste of Caw-fee; he loves and hates it and knows he's going to have a stomachache later. "They're just not saying 'r's."

"Acceleray-tah." Rey says, her brow knit in concentration.

"Trash Compak-tah." Jessika mocks, her accent perfect.

"Ahhhhh-Two Unit." BB-8 trills, and somehow it works.

"Stormtroopah." Finn offers.

"That hawt Stormtroopah put the Ahh-Two Unit in the trash compactah." Poe says in perfect local dialect.

There's a long silence as the accent settles in, followed by howls of laughter. By the end of the week they will all have acquired a shade of the local dialect, much to the chagrin of pretty much everyone in earshot.

Seriously this is fucking adorable. Although as darling as this is and no matter how much I love these nerds, speaking as a local, thank fuck none of them know about the damned "pahk your cah in Hahvahd Yahd" thing ever tourist thinks is cute, because I would be obligated to toss them into the harbor. (I dealt with a lot of Boston accent jokes when I went to grad school out of state, and my tolerance for them is still very low, alas.)

...Is it terrible of me that now I want to see our Resistance lovelies deal with the insanity that is GAME NIGHT AT FENWAY VERSUS THE YANKEES
