Kylo/Rey, arranged marriage to secure the peace

(Anonymous) 2016-01-28 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Kylo Ren kills Snoke and takes over the First Order. He then reaches out to what is left of the Republic, and the Resistance, with an offer.

The First Order will stop its conquests and its reign of terror, ruling only over its current territories...

...If Rey will agree to marry him.

Seconded so hard.

fill: silent vows

"Mother."

She is older now. Small and shriveled like dried out fruit, like a carcass left in the desert. It is hard to imagine that he was birthed from such a body. She raises her chin defiantly, tightens her lips so that every line on her face is exaggerated.

"You will do me the courtesy of removing your mask."

"As you wish," he says. The helmet unlocks with a hiss. He sees the tension ebb and flow across her aged flesh, feels the play of emotions that ripple through the Force. He is not the boy she neglected or the man who killed her lover. He is something else, evolved higher. Two scars now cross his face like clashing sabers, like the X of a kiss. One battle lost and one victorious. Girl and monster (master); Kylo Ren is the result. He is their child more than the shrunken woman's before him.

"Does my appearance bother you?"

"No. You look like you got what you wanted."

Not yet, he thinks. "I come in peace." He smiles. The Force flares beneath his skin and through the dry earth of this planet and its constant violet storm clouds above. They had agreed to meet on neutral ground to negotiate a settlement. There is no such thing as neutral ground. There is no such thing as balance. Everything is in flux, an ever-shifting spectrum between the powerless and the powerful. Kylo Ren feels strong but he does not feel complete.

"Speak plainly," she says, crossing her arms as if to chide him twenty years too late, "and do not use euphemisms like peace. What do you want?"

Everything. The rush of blood and taste of death, the heat from a thousand exploding stars; the sense of a trillion lives at his fingertips; to feel their essence and all that pain and elation, to breathe in the Force and hold it all inside his chest. The galaxy and all the galaxies that came before it; to know it all and be ignorant at once. To sing and to scream. Everything and just one thing, the same thing, a simple thing:

"Her."

His mother shakes her head.

"Give her to me and I will leave you to your petty squabbles. You may keep all you have and believe it to be yours because you think you have resisted. I have spared you," he spits. "I have shown you mercy. Now I demand you show me the same courtesy that you have asked of me."

"I cannot—"

"It is not for you to decide." He can feel her. The Force roars like thunder in his head and his smile stretches wide. "She has made her decision."

Break your word—yes my darling—and I will kill you in your sleep.

OP here. Holy SHIT anon!author this is so, so good. The imagery you craft is breathtaking. And Rey's presence is so visceral, for all that she has only one line. Such a great look inside Kylo Ren's head, who he is, what he is made of, what he wants.

Thank you so much! Am so pleased to have met your expectations for what was an awesome prompt.

Your writing is vivid and striking. Also, it looks like Kylo's finally graduated as a proper Sith. The notion of flux he describes feels very much in line with Sith lore.

Thank you for such an awesome comment! Honestly I have little understanding about Sith lore (though I guess KR is a Sith Lord or something now he's killed Snope) but the idea of flux and fluidity seemed to fit well with how he would perceive things.

Please sir, may I have some more?

Shivers down my spine at how much Kylo's changed, evolved. The writing is so coldly and strikingly gorgeous. The disregard for his mother, the cross of scars, the thoughts about the Force. All feel very true for this older dark lord. I would die for some more interaction with Rey...

Dear anon author, do you have an ao3 account and if so, would you consider posting this to there as well? I want people to read the fuck out of this fill so more of us can scream about it together.

fill: silent vows - part 2

(Anonymous) 2016-01-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She travels alone, blocking out the pleas of her friends, all their hurt and sense of betrayal. She can feel long arms outstretched, fingers reaching for her as she drifts further away, pulling finally from their grasp as she hits the switch and enters hyperspace.

The whoosh and pull of stars reduced to streams of light feels fitting for the chaos inside her head. There has been too much chaos since peace was declared. She is not made for sitting still, not made for diplomacy or order or silence. Hunger. Her belly had been full for too long. She had grown complacent. She had felt him, the moment he had cut his master down.

It had been so quiet, so unexpected, like the vacuum of a bomb detonating before it destroys everything in its wake. Then came the explosion. She had been thrown to her knees, breathless with euphoria. The power and the release; the Force sang in her blood and pooled low in her belly. Ghosts of hands had caressed her. To her shame, it had felt good.

And like any comedown from a giddy high, the war was over. Politics was anathema to her. Rebuilding what had been broken only appealed if she could fix it with her bare hands. She had no place and no purpose, reduced to waiting like she did in the desert for a call to something else.

And so it came. An indecent proposal. Not surprised nor disappointed, she had heeded his call. What else could she do?

She enters the orbit of the Order's new home planet. The atmosphere swirls a surprisingly vital green and blue. As she breaks thick white clouds and closes in on the coordinates, she sees it: a strange grey castle standing alone amongst unending forest, rising barely beyond the tops of the trees. No other buildings or signs of civilization. This feels like the home of a hermit, not an emperor. She sees a landing pad holding one other ship with black folded wings like a sleeping bird of prey.

Rey lands in the only other available space as per his instructions. She carries her saber and staff but no other personal belongings; these had been his instructions as well. She lowers the boarding ramp and steps out into greyness and drizzle. She is still unused to rain. The moisture feels pleasant against her face; nothing is pleasant about this, she reminds herself and breathes in, eyes closed as she seeks a serenity through the Force.

She is no good at meditation. Action and thought and feelings; she cannot empty her mind as much as she can't hold her tongue or remain still for more than a moment. She opens her eyes instead and moves forward. He waits for her in the arch of the hangar doors, steps out and the rain falls harder. She watches as the drops repel against an invisible force around him; it surrounds her too. Since when—

"I apologize for the weather."

The cross on his face suits him, she thinks. Damaged goods. Defective. He is tall and strong and so much more than she remembers. Broken is better than untouched; to be scarred means at least that you have lived. She thinks of her marks on the wall of the AT-AT. Rey was here. I am here, she thinks. Who knows of my existence?

"Will you come inside?" he says and holds out his hand. Rey places his grandfather's lightsaber in his palm.

"Hold this and kill me if the inclination takes you. I will not come closer."

"Very well." His hand closes around the lightsaber and he raises it to his face, studying it with a strange detachment. "I don't know why I thought I needed this." His arm flings to the side and the saber flies into space, spurred on by the Force and lost to the forest.

Rey can't hold in her gasp. Her mouth parts and her heart flutters in shock but mostly excitement. Are you coming? His voice in her head is quiet and unexpected as she watches him walk away.

Chaos, she thinks and the rain falls and it hits her, wet and cold and delicious.

Same, Rey, sameee. My heart also fluttered in excitement from his discarding of the saber, no more crutches for him. Ok, but if he can make her feel that good by cutting down his master lightyears away, imagine how good he could make her feel when they're right next to each other! Thank you so much for writing this prompt in such a unique voice and lovely style.
