It was his confidence that annoyed Kylo the most. Hux's acted like nothing Kylo could do could touch him. It was infuriating. His only power came from his rank, whereas Kylo had killed to become closer to the force and had worked on building his connection to it everyday since.

“I could tear your mind in two” he said after Hux once again ignored his commands. “I could force you to do whatever I wished.”

Hux didn’t bother to look up from his console. He hadn’t looked up once since Kylo had entered the room and demanded four additional troops to help him in his search. He had just said no and continued about his day as though the First Order didn’t rely on the power of the force for its empire building. “Kylo, your tricks barely work on prisoners after they’ve been tortured for hours. I doubt you could even figure out what I had for breakfast today.”

Kylo was seething, “You don’t want to see my ‘tricks’ general, I could pull forth anything I wanted to from your mind. You can have no secrets from me.”

Hux looked up, “Kylo, leave. I have a ship to run, I’m too busy to listen to your delusions of power.”

Kylo stepped closer, his robe brushing against Hux’s hand on the desk, “Do you truly believe that I cannot breach your mind?” he asked.

“The force works on the weak minded Kylo, and I did not get where I am from being weak minded. I can handle any mental probe you can throw at me. Supreme Leader Snoke would not have given me this command if I couldn’t” he said. His confidence was grating.

“Let’s test that then,” he said and before Hux could give another annoyed protest he had the man’s chin in his hand and was pushing against his mind.

Hux hadn’t lied when he said he wasn’t weak minded. His thoughts were well controlled and even the feeling of Kylo reaching into his head only got a soft flicker of annoyance. At the surface he was still going over sanitation rotation, listing off various designations and their assignments. Kylo felt a rush of annoyance that the man was still attempting to work even as Kylo opened his mind.

“What did you have for breakfast today?” he asked, putting the force behind his question. Hux didn’t respond though, his mind didn’t even attempt to hide the memory. There was nothing to go off of because Hux didn’t stop going through those damn rotations.

He pushed harder against his mind, doing his best to get past the meticulous filtering system Hux used on his own thoughts. Not only did he not think of anything he didn’t want to, he didn’t leave trails to thoughts he was purposefully doing his best not to think of like so many others did. Kylo was almost envious of his level of control. He himself had only ever managed to protect his mind through throwing as much force into the shields around his mind as he could.

There was no way to get into the man’s thoughts with skill. Instead he pushed his mind as forcefully as he could into Hux’s, relying on sheer power as he always did. As he did so he tightened his hand on the man’s chin, using his other hand to push down on his neck. The pressure on his neck triggered something, some memory hidden deep within Hux. Without thinking he pressed down further, and pushed himself as much as he could into Hux’s mind.

The memory had the faded quality of something rarely viewed. The details were so vague that it took a moment for Kylo to understand what was happening. A mouthful of blood, an aching pain, a hand pushed so tightly against his neck that he couldn’t breath. “You’re daddy isn’t here to protect you now cunt” a deep voice whispered against his ear.

Kylo tried not to notice just how young Hux was as he pulled out of the memory. It was too late though and several other memories were now playing in the general’s head. High ranking officials pulling young Hux onto their laps in their ornate offices. Fellow cadets cornering him in the shower, already hard. Having to use some of his allotted drinking water to wash off the blood that covered his thighs.

By the time he was able to extract himself from the labyrinth of memories he’d seen dozens of scenes. Hux was pale and shaking when he was removed enough from his mind that he could look at him. His expression though was completely controlled, “You’ve made your point, now leave Ren.”

For once Kylo obeyed immediately. When several minutes later his communication pod pinged that he’d been approved three of the four squads he’d requested he felt no satisfaction.

Author anon: opps, I just reread the prompt, I totally didn't realize this was supposed to be kylo/hux, that's what I get for filling prompts while on the bus. I'll write a slash sequel later

This is really well done, the characterization is on point.

OP here. This was so great, and very much in character too. Don't feel so bad on the lack of the slash, for all we know, they still bicker like this all the time even as a couple. If you plan on doing a sequel though, I would love you forever. Having Ren find out things about Hux is a nice concept.
