Re: Question about Poe's interrogation

(Anonymous) 2016-03-30 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
In "A New Hope", Vader brings an interrogation droid into the cell with him when he's interrogating Leia. He has, at that point, no reason to suspect that Leia is Force-sensitive, which could be construed to lend credence to the theory that physical/psychological torture makes Force mind probing easier (or maybe he's just a sadist, that's also a valid theory).

Also of note: Vader is disgruntled when Leia is able to resist his mind probe, but he doesn't conclude from this that she's FS.

Later in the trilogy, though, both Vader and Palpatine are able to pick up Luke's thoughts pretty readily. Maybe Luke is less mentally disciplined / more emotive than Leia, or maybe being an active Force-user makes him "louder"/easier to read?

Tangentially relevant: a variety of alien species (Hutts, Toydarians, Epicanthix etc) are innately difficult/impossible to mind trick/probe, Because Reasons.

TL;DR: imo, strong canonical support for 'torture makes mind probe easier' and 'ability to resist probe varies between people, not a reliable sign of Force-sensitivity'.

If you were trapped in the tfa universe and had to have sex with one character for ~reasons~ which character would it be?

I feel like most women on the street wouldn't find him sexy. Like, if I saw him at a coffee shop I wouldn't stop and notice him. His major selling point is that he's tall (let's be real 'tall' is often the first word people use when talking about hot dudes) but put his face on a 5'5" guy and he wouldn't have been cast.

One a side note I think there's probably a correlation between people who thought went hard for Snape and people who are now going hard for Kylo

da

The above could be considered a minor example of the "Tumblr SJW" type comment being discussed earlier this post.

Wrong, try again.
Or rather, don't. People who dismiss arguments because they "sound like a race" (which is pretty fucking racist in itself) usually don't have a lot of substance to bring to a discussion.

This. Those ears. It's his personality and his presence as an actor I admire.

He was also cast because he is a good actor and because he actually looks like he could be related to Han and Leia (anyone who denies this doesn't have eyes/doesn't know how inherited looks work).

Um. Huge femslasher here. The lack of it has never been from people being afraid. Most women in fandom are straight, they don't care about, read, or write f/f ships. That's it. I've written kinky stormpilot and femslash and guess what? Neither got any hate. Calm down and stop believing the hype that fandom is out to attack you. 98% of the time the rest of fandom doesn't even know you exist.

Friend were not on tumblr right now. It might be from someone on tumblr but just as likely it's a troll trying to get a reaction. Like 3/4ths of the interactions on here.

We're not on tumblr right now. It might be from someone on tumblr, but just as likely it's a troll trying to get a reaction, like 3/4ths of the interactions on here. But you all just keep on getting mad. At this point the 'you mad' troll has left because their presence here was redundant.

I don't believe in limiting oneself. I'd go for a four way with Finn/Poe/Rey. Maybe also + Jessika. And possibly Leia. Also +++ any cool space sex toys

Same anon:

I think there's a difference between 'surface' mind reading and probing for specific information.

During Luke's confrontation with Vader and Palpatine in "Return of the Jedi", V and P seem to be doing a relatively noninvasive and painless mind reading, kind of skimming the surface or picking up "loud" thoughts.

When Kylo Ren freezes Rey on Takodana, he does a preliminary mind-read (per the script), and learns that she has seen the map. He knocks her out and kidnaps her so he can extract the details in a controlled setting (plus whatever additional interest he has in her). While frozen, Rey appears terrified, but not obviously in pain; later, during the probe, she appears to be in greater physical distress, suggesting that it's palpably invasive or painful (or both).

Unrelated: AIRT makes an excellent point about the hazards of bothering Kylo Ren.

Re: If you had to

I'm torn.

Finn is very pretty and I'm in love with him. We'd raise a happy, loving family together. But if it's just sex I feel like Poe would give better head. (I'm into more sexually experienced dudes, you know?) Finn could learn though.

...I guess Finn with a helping hand from Poe.

It's the attitude, not the platform. Tumblr's great. "Tumblr SJW" is a label to distinguish between people who are bringing attention to a problematic social issue of one kind or another, and people who are using social issues as a means to be an asshole and bash ships and tropes they don't like. If the use of Tumblr in the label makes you feel defensive, perhaps suggest a different term for this type of person and their non-helpful use of social issues?
