FILL: Poe can’t have sex and Rey doesn’t get the big deal (Finn/Poe, Jess/Rey)
(Anonymous) 2017-04-02 02:13 am (UTC)(link)Snap snorts.
“No, really,” Poe says. “I’m going to die because half of my volume of blood is in my dick all the time and the rest of my body can’t function without it. That, and also my balls are getting so blue that soon they’l just - fall off, bang, no more sex for Dameron, which is emotional pain on top of the physical, which just makes this whole thing even worse.”
“Sure, flyboy,” Jess says, sliding into the seat beside Rey. It’s evening, after a long day of training, and they’ve all got trays piled high with tubers and rolls and stew. Rey is listening to the conversation carefully, though she’s too busy digging into her food - and trying to understand the motivation behind the conversation - to contribute herself.
“You don’t understand my pain,” Poe groans into the tabletop. His tray lies next to his head, untouched.
Jess rolls her eyes. “When’s your boy getting back?”
Poe says something that’s muffled by his arms.
“What was that?”
Poe sits up. He actually does look a little worse for the wear, Rey notes. He’s oddly flushed and looks tired, eyes glazed over. “Three days,” he says. “Seventy two hours, four thousand three hundred and twenty minutes -“
“All right,” Jess says, waving him down. “Jesus, you really are sex starved.”
Poe looks at her plaintively. “Have you ever seen Finn, Jess?”
“Gay,” Jess reminds him, pointing to herself.
“You can still appreciate him aesthetically!”
“It’s true Finn has a rockin’ bod,” Snap pipes up.
Poe nods, points in Snap’s direction. “See! It’s tragic, that’s what it is. I mean, if it was because Finn didn’t want to, or was uncomfortable, or whatever - that’s one thing. But he and I are both consenting, enthusiastic adults, and it weren’t for this goddamn mission to the middle of nowhere for a supply run we could be -“
“Alright, there, Dameron,” Jess interrupts, hand raised. “We don’t need the details of your sex life, thanks but no thanks.”
Poe sighs again, gaze going wistful. “It’s a tragedy,” he says. “A true Shakespearian tragedy.” And his head goes thumping back down on the table.
After a long moment of silence, Rey tentatively speaks up. “So, you’re this upset - because you can’t have sex with Finn for a couple of days?”
Poe raises his head indignantly. “A couple of days! Rey it’s already been five, and there are three more to go! That’s more than a week!”
Rey shrugs, glancing to Jess a bit uncertainly. Jess is waves a hand at her, as if to say, go on. “I mean,” Rey says, turning back to Poe. “It’s just sex, though.”
Until this moment, Rey has never quite understood the idiom about catching flies in one’s mouth. Now, though, she gets it - because if there were any insects in this room, Poe would have captured a least a few of them by now, with how wide his mouth is hanging open. “I - just - what -“ he splutters. “Just sex! It’s sex, Rey! I mean, you do you, if you don’t like sex, that’s your thing, your choice - but I like sex, Rey. I don’t think this is a secret to anyone -“
“It’s not,” Snap interrupts.
“No, definitely not,” Jess agrees, taking a bite of her bread. Poe forges on, unabashed.
“I mean. I am a sexual person. And, you know, Finn is too. So this is, you know, this is really - I mean, just sex? What is better than sex? What better way could I be spending my time right now, than having sex?”
“So, what,” Rey says, almost wondering. “For you, is sex, like - the endgame in physical contact?”
“Well,” Poe says, “not always, but most of the time, yeah. On a grander scale, sure. I mean. Only if my partner wants it to, of course, I’ve had sexless relationships before. But - for me, I guess, sex is, yeah, the most intimate - experience two people can have.”
“Hm.” Rey considers her soup. It’s certainly an interesting viewpoint, albeit not one she thought people actually had. There were holovids and such, of course, and she’d always heard of people being ‘sex-crazed’ - but she thought it was just an exaggeration. Apparently not.
“Is it - I mean, don’t answer this if you don’t want to, but - is it not like that for you?”
Rey tilts her head, considering. “I mean,” she says. “Not really. Sex is - it can be mindless, you know, and impersonal. There are so many other ways to be - emotionally connected, I suppose, and I feel like that’s more important than the physicality of it.”
“All right, as much as I love you guys, this conversation is getting a little too deep for me,” Snap says, standing from the table. His tray is cleared. “I just wanna crash and not think for a while, so -“
“I’ll join you,” Jess says, rising as well. She drops her hand on Rey’s shoulder for a moment, smiles at her. “See you guys tomorrow.”
Poe and Rey murmur goodbyes as Snap and Jess go off to return their trays. Once they’re gone, Rey turns back to Poe.
“I mean, wouldn’t you agree?” she prompts when he doesn’t respond.
Poe looks considering. “I suppose,” he says. “But I mean - the physicality is important to mental connection. Like, just look at me right now - my concentration certainly isn’t at it’s peak, because like I said, half of my blood is in my dick. So I don’t - I don’t know, I don’t really see those as separate. What would you do physically - how would you get those moments of emotional connection?”
Rey shrugs. “Sometimes it’s not about what you’re doing. Have you ever just laid with someone and had a conversation with them.” She thinks of Jess, thinks of their dim barracks, quiet murmurs in the night. “Just - told them something you’d never told anyone. Bared yourself to them, so to speak.”
“I - I suppose,” Poe says, almost distantly.
“Or - I mean, even if you need to get physical, it doesn’t have to be sex. What’s wrong with a good old-fashioned make out session? Sometimes you don’t need to - go to all that effort, that energy that - work. Sometimes it just feels nice to kiss someone sometimes.”
Poe hums. “I mean, I get that. But if I’m turned on, and my partner’s turned on, then I don’t see why you wouldn’t just go all the way.”
Rey shrugs again. “Maybe you just don’t want to. Or - I mean, what about when you’re separated? You can’t have sex alone. I mean, you can - pleasure yourself, or you could try to comm them. But it’s not the same, I think you’d agree. But you can do things for your partner, emotionally support them, from afar. You can send them a message to let them know you’re thinking about them. You can make something for them, do something for them - and don’t even tell them you did it. Like - make them their favorite food and leave it out for them. Or wait up for them when they have to work late. Or help them finish their work when it’s late and they’re tired, even if you’re tired too.”
Poe considers it. “I mean,” he says after a moment. “I agree that that’s nice, and all. But - what’s wrong with sex at the end of that?”
“Nothing,” Rey says, “if you like that. But it’s not everything, is it?” She rises from the table, taking her tray with her. “I think I’m going to crash, and by the looks of it, you should too. See you tomorrow?”
Poe nods absentmindedly, and she heads away, thinking of Jess, warm and soft, snuggled up in their bed, waiting for her.
—
Three days later, Finn gets back while Poe’s up in the skies on a training run. He comes back to find the transport unloading in the hangar, and Finn nowhere to be found. Snap’s at the hangar, and smirks when he sees Poe hurriedly emerging from his plane.
“Got back an hour ago,” he says to Poe’s unasked question. “He asked about you, then said something about heading to your room.”
Poe’s off before Snap can add anything else.
He practically sprints to their quarters. When he gets there, he takes a moment to pause, take a breath, smooth his flight suit. Then he presses the pad and the door swings open and there’s Finn, sitting at the kitchen table in his civvies, empty muffin wrappers scattered around him, another muffin in his hand.
“Poe!” he says delightedly when he sees Poe, and Poe’s heart swells at the sight. Finn hurries to his feet, wiping crumbs off himself. “Did you make these?”
“I missed you,” Poe says, in lieu of a real response, and something in Finn’s expression melts. Poe steps forward, tossing his helmet down on the bunk next to him, and the door slides shut behind him. “Hi,” he says.
Finn smiles at him, dopey and soft. “Hi,” he says. “I missed you, too.” And then Poe takes a step forward, and Finn takes a step forward, and Finn is in Poe’s arm, and he’s kissing him. Poe wraps his hands around Finn’s waist, pulls him in close. He tastes like buttery blueberry muffins. Finn slides his leg in between Poe’s, and then he’s rubbing up against him, and - oh, hello, there.
Finn leans back, smile slipping into a smirk. “I really missed you,” he murmurs, voice going rough, and Poe groans and pushes Finn back into the nearest bunk. Finn laughs the whole way down.
Re: FILL: OP!
(Anonymous) 2017-05-11 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)I like how the conversation starts off really TMI dirty and then goes into territory too deep for even Snap. Rey being hesitant to voice her opinion and then getting more confident was cute, too. And Poe being like "b-but-but sex?" haha
Omg though, I died at the muffins. XD
