Finn/Poe - Stormpilot courting rituals

(Anonymous) 2017-01-07 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
In the FO, the closest thing they had to showing love/affection was to be USEFUL to one another.

Finn is doing his best to make himself indispensable to Poe.

I would put a different spin on it, less being useful, more subte flirting with little things so the commanding officer won't notice.

Would that be okay?

[Fill] "Good to hear your voice" Part 1/3(?) - Finn/Poe - Stormpilot courting rituals

“Good to hear your voice” - Part 1/3(?)

The voice was the one feature which wasn't totally obscured by a trooper's armor. That and your registration number. Friends knew the nicknames of their comrades. They were given to each other. They made it easier to talk to each other and to show affection. FN-2187 had no nickname.

Troopers engaged in “intimacy”. Quick affairs in storage units or, for the bold ones which trusted their teammates enough, in the 'freshers, where everyone else turned their eyes away. Always sneaky so the commanding officers wouldn't pick up on it. A long build up with a short and heated climax when the opportunity lent itself.
The build up was always subtle. Those, who didn't know the codes of troopers, would never see it as flirtation.
When FN-2187 was fresh from the academy, his teammates and him got shipped of to help with a supply run. With them was a group of older troopers. It was a boring flight. FN-2187's team listened wide eyed to the stories of their elders. One of them was called “Hit”. Finn looked his training stats and was confused, that they were a bit below average. He asked one of Hit's teammates, why the trooper was called that, if he was not so good at hitting things with the blaster. The teammate just laughed and said “He hits enough with his blaster, Rookie! Believe me!”

When they called mission control Hit was at the com.
“Kalimar-Base? Here Freighter MB-2212, requesting permission to land. Over.”
A soft female voice answered. “Here Kalimar-Base, is that you, DU-1548?”
“Sure am, Kalimar-Base. Are you there, DT-1476?” FN-2187 could hear the smile in Hit's voice.
“Affirmative.” The female voice sounded much friendly, a bit of happy singsong in it. “Send your mission protocols and proceed with the landing, MB-2212. You have clearance for sector B.”
“Thank you, Kalimar-Base. Good to hear your voice. MB-2212 over.”
Even before Hit had ended his words, FN-2187's entire team sucked in their breath, utterly scandalized.

“Good to hear your voice” was the ultimate code for affection and intimacy. It meant “I want you with me.”, depending on context going from “I am so glad you are alive” to “Lets break regulation together hard in the next storage closet.” To say that to other trooper on an open channel with other troopers present... That... That was beyond bold. DU-1548 was lucky the officer was in his cabin right now! Hit's teammates just shook their heads and one of them kicked him playfully in the shin and said “It is always the same with you.”

They landed and the officer left to do whatever officer do and the troopers got to work loading the freighter. It was shitty work. Kalimar was hot, moist planet and the place was not very organized. They had to search for items all over the base. Then their officer got in to a fight with another officer over something or other and let out his anger at the troopers. FN-2187 was glad when they were done and allowed eat. Hit and DT-1476, called Dit, volunteered to check over the supply list and do a final inventory.
“Hit and Dit” Slip said to no one particular and snickered to himself.

DU-1548 did not show up for the meal. He came to baracks late and in a very good mood. As he undressed he pulled several ration bar out of his armor.
“You horny nerfherder!” One of his teammates tried to wrestle a bar out of his hand. “Getting some and getting some bars...unfair!”
The others chuckled as both of them tussled like little cadets, while FN-2187 could see what kind of bars Hit has gotten. From Dit he presumed.
They were N-fru bars, made out of real fruits and nuts, more candy than nutrition. Mostly to boost moral in the field.
A rare treat, unless you get one as gift from your friends... or you were sweethearts with someone in supply.

FN-2187 was given a N-fru bar once by Phasma after he aced field training.
“Good job, cadet.” She had given him a unusual friendly clap on the helmet and pressed the candy in his hand.
His teammates had watched in envy while chewing on their standard rations. They never gave him food or the good blanket or showed up early to relief him from his shift or something of the thousand little things.
They didn't even gave him a name. Nobody ever told him, that they liked to hear his voice.

And then Everything happened... and then black.
