Snoke wasn't responsible for choosing which General with whom Kylo Ren would co-command a starship. Kylo Ren had the choice of choosing the General, and said General's starship. Knowing the high esteem of the Supreme Leader and the Master of the Knights of Ren were held in, all of the Generals fought to gain their favour. Specifically each General "wooed" Kylo Ren to choose him/her to be his co-commander of his/her starship. Some tried wooing with love, some with physical and material favours. Any and all tactics was fair game to win the favour of Kylo Ren, and in turn the Supreme Leader.

All except one. One General Hux.

Why did Kylo Ren choose General Hux as his co-commander? How did the one general who didn't try to suck up and/or woo Lord Ren himself, and in turn the Supreme Leader, get chosen over them?

Optional: Kylo/Hux.

Mandatory: Kylo keeping the best gifts he was given.

oh man hard-to-get Hux.
Then Ren got so mad when he realized Hux wasn't playing hard to get. Hux simply didn't care for his Force shenanigans.

Random General 1: But but Lord Ren, I gave you the dias to put your helmet on!
Random General 2: But but Lord Ren, I gave you the transparent halter top to show off your great physique!
Hux: Stroking his cat, looking unimpressed.

Hah! Yesss, Ren always wanting what he can't have. Plus I bet Kylo initially thought the cat was Hux's gift to him, he knew the general would crack eventually -- how disappointing, how boring -- but trying to manipulate him through emotional attachment to a pet is a nice touch though. Imagine Kylo reaching with arms out, ready to accept the animal. Imagine Hux gripping Millicent tighter and speed walking the hell away from Ren. Imagine Kylo just staring after him, arms still out, hands curled into fists.

Kylo thinking: So cold! So untouchable! You will be mine!
Hux thinking: DID THAT RIDICULOUS WIZARD JUST TRY TO STEAL MY CAT???

Hux getting all this shade from the other generals. And his insistence that he never wanted Kylo just makes them angrier.
