Hux deduces that Kylo is mentally ill, not just mentally ill but that what he suffers from is most likely borderline personality disorder. He uses this for evil purposes.

I'd prefer if Hux loves him back but is too fucked up to do right but if he is just pretending for power reasons it's okay too.
