Kylo leaves to train with Snoke, knowing it could be years before he sees Hux again. He expects there'll be Angst, weeping, but Hux seems stoic. He is so strong. Kylo will think of them sharing and withstanding this unbearable torment to keep him going.

Hux turns to Phasma as the shuttle leaves and says, voice choked with emotion: “This is the happiest day of my life. We have to escape before he comes back.”

++ There is a protracted goodbye in the shuttle bay, wherein Kylo leaves Hux ample time to smear ashes, rend clothing, mourn

+ Finalizer crew screening Kylo’s calls because this Hux is fun and they want to keep him
+ He loves ~~fucking~~ Kylo, but loves his job more

All the bonuses on this are sheer fucking gold. Particularly Hux vacuuming out Kylo's ashes with a little apron on.

Laughing so hard picturing this! Hux and the assembled officers and troopers impassively watching Ren slowly draaaaag his ass up the ramp of his command shuttle, one inch at a time, all, "okay guys, I'm going now. For real this time..." and Hux not being able to resist snapping, "so you've kept saying, for the past TWO HOURS!"

Hux regrets his outburst almost immediately as Kylo stomps back down the ramp (everyone: "aww, dammit, he was nearly inside!") and over to him, seemingly pleased? Giddy in anticipation? Waving his hand in Hux's personal space, as if he could conjure the melodrama he craves out of the air, "I sense you are agitated by our parting, General."

Hux just sighs. Kylo is deeply moved by this display of subdued heartsick agony.

"There is no shame when men such as us express our emotions. The violence of our passions compel us to extremes, even in valediction."
"'kay. Bye then."

"Emotions fuel the darkside, Hux! Emotions such as sorrow, grief, ardent longing...? I-If you wanted to weep into the hem of my robes, that would be acceptable. Wailing is encouraged."
"No, I'm good."

"THIS IS IT, HUX. THE LAST YOU'LL SEE OF ME. FOR YEARS, MAYBE!"
"Right. Off you go."

Hux makes a little shoo-ing gesture. Ren sways back in the direction of his ship, but doesn't actually step away.

"Look, Ren, I can't miss you if you don't leave."
"So you admit it, you will miss me~?"
"Leave. And we'll find out."

It takes another half hour (and a lock of ginger hair) before Kylo actually gets in the shuttle and flies off. The Master of the Knights of Ren presses his palm against the viewport and vows to endure this test as the general does: with an elegant, distant aplomb. Strong, composed, serene. Confident that the strength of their bond can weather any storm.

2 minutes after Kylo leaves, Hux is doing the fucking Nae Nae in the middle of the hanger as thousands of red-black-white balloons rain down on him. Massive "SEE YA, SHITLORD" "GET OUT AND STAY OUT" banners unfurl from the ceiling. Space Kelly Clarkson blares from every speaker on the Finalizer.

🎶 I CAN BREATHE FOR THE FIRST TIME

General Hux actually fucking moonwalks all the way back to the command deck, where he admires a newly installed display panel--
"Shifts Without Force-Related Incidents: 0" and flips the counter to "1".

This. Is. Gold. :D
