Instead of detesting/fearing/etc. his dad, Hux is as intense about his hero-worshipping adoration of Commandant Brendol Hux as he is about hating the Republic. He talks about how cool his dad is all the time which drives poor patricidal Kylo up the fucking wall. Except he doesn’t want to reveal anything about his family so he has do endure Hux constantly mentioning his awesome dad. His favorite story about the evil Rebels? Told by his dad as a bedtime story. Kylo brings him some exotic food from one of his missions and has to listen to Hux gushing about how his dad once brought them this food when he was a child. He’s very excited about blowing up the Hosnian system for many reasons, one is: Ren, there are few things better than making your parents proud, right?

+Similarities between Hux’s father and Han Solo (like often being absent or random things like same taste in music) which make Kylo especially annoyed/sad

++Hux shoving holopics of little Hux with his dad (and mom, siblings, droids, etc.)

+++Hux’s father is in some ways abusive (strict, forbidding anything frivolous, expecting absolute obedience and 100% success) but Hux feels no resentment. This is the guy who thinks planetary destruction will make the galaxy a better place – he is absolutely sure that he wouldn’t have achieved anything without his father’s guidance and is therefore very grateful for everything, even the bad things.
