Essentially, Kylo realizes Finn's intent to escape even before Jakku and creates a fake Force bond between them that he controls (turns it "off and on" by his own volition). Kylo has always pretended it was mysterious for him and has gone out of his way to demonstrate to Finn that he is hurt when Finn is and vice versa (which is actually true for the "on" phase).

Skip to after Finn escapes. this is a constant thing that looms in the back of his mind and his motivator for joining the Resistance is to know how close they are to killing or maiming Kylo Ren. Against his better sense, he ends up protecting Kylo Ren to protect himself, which was Kylo's plan all along.

These extras are totally extremely optional but I thought I would throw them into the prompt anyways if it helps author anons:
+ According to KOTOR 2, normal force bonds allow you to feel emotions and sense things but it's almost unheard of, but theoretically possible, that they are fatal (i.e. you can feel their pain and die when they do). It would be cool if Luke explains this or Finn reads this somewhere, whatever he does with that information is up to author anon (uses it or passively takes it)
+ if Finn goes back to the First Order, I would not mind at all! Gray Finn is something I would love to see or even have a story end with.

I am so use to pairings that I typed it instinctively. I don't care about pairings as long as they are within the prompt!
