So here's the thing.

Poe knows something's up. Sure, every time he holds Finn's hand in public he practically overflows with pride. He still daydreams about him and - though he loathes to admit it - flusters when Jessika ribs him about how obviously in love he is.

But this is different. He feels like he's glowing. Like there's embers in his chest that are stoked every time they touch, or every time he even thinks of Finn or looks at him. He's been in love enough before to know this is new and not normal.

That and...he feels protective, not of Finn (well, no more than usual), but of himself too. Something instinctive is making him want to keep himself safe. Odd. He can't remember the last time that happened. It'd have been a disadvantage what with being a fighter pilot. He's used to shooting first and asking questions later.

And the thing is, Finn's noticed too. When he gets back from training, Poe gets a deep-rooted pang of want that makes the hairs on the back of neck stand on end. He needs to have Finn kissing him and touching him and - fuck,inside him with almost the same intensity he gets when he has a heat (which is late this month, but he's been pretty stressed, it'll happen eventually.)

He only has to look at Finn - the way the sleeves of his tee are getting tighter around his bicep now thanks to training, his fucking mouth, the solid weight of him when he crowds Poe against the wall to kiss - and he gets wet. Then Finn scents him. Then he ends up getting fucked on the floor on his elbows and knees, desperately pressing back against his knot, relishing the wet heat of come spilling inside him.

And it's been happening a lot.

He's not complaining, not at all, but. The logical conclusion (to the glowing feeling, the protectiveness, the fucks, Finn curling close against him and telling him he smells different- but in a good way) is...impossible. He can't be knocked up. The whole caught-up-in-a-solar-flare thing kinda nipped that in the bud when he was barely 20. He'd not been bothered at the time. Hell, the only things he cared about at that age were getting laid and getting his pilot's license.

But now - just the possibility of it makes his heart stick in his chest. Him, being a father. Finn being a father with him. He'd be so good as one, he's so brave and clever and - everything. He's everything. That and he's seen proof! When another pilot's family had visited them on base and the kid they had was scared of the noise of the aircraft were making, Finn had been amazing. He'd given him earphones and a resistance patch for his coat. Poe knows with certainty as strong as his faith in the resistance he'd make a fantastic dad.

It's all so nice to imagine but. Then his stomach swoops, because - Finn's so young. He should have been more careful with protection to be doubly sure. He should have gotten on the pill. He should have-

He should have done a million things different, because the last thing he wants to do is to tie Finn down before he's ready. He doesn't want him to stay out of obligation. He'd break apart completely if Finn ever came to resent him. He's tearing up just fucking thinking about it.

He takes a deep breath and lets it out slow. He's being ridiculous. He doesn't even know for sure and he's already imagining the worst.

He's lowered a hand to his stomach subconsciously. Fuck, he's in deep.

Poe thinks. He needs someone to bounce ideas off who'll tell him when he's being overdramatic. Jessika's on leave. He doesn't want to drag Rey into this and put her in the middle, because it'd be so awkward for her, especially on top of he training. His holopad beeps and jerks him out of his reverie.

Oh, fuck. His meeting with the general. He'd forgotten completely, so caught up he is on a potential relationship destroying impossible baby. And Leia...she'll be able to tell, he knows it. An alpha sense of smell coupled with her natural shrewdness. He's a goner.

Poe groans. He could skive, but that'd look even more suspicious, and he'd only be prolonging the inevitable.

He gets dressed and borrows back his jacket - left on what's become Finn's side of the bed - for courage.

Time to swallow his pride and do this.
