Poe and his father have never been much for talking about love. Kes certainly wasn't up to it after Shara died, and since growing up Poe has had a bunch of brief flings that didn't really warrant bringing up to the family.

That was before Finn came along. Poe is sure he wants to spend the rest of his life with the stormtrooper he was fated to meet. Finn is kind and brave and funny, and equally enamoured with Poe.

Except when Poe breaks the news to Kes, Kes doesn't approve. "Dad if you meet him you wouldn't doubt his loyalties. He left the First Order. He's a good person." Kes isn't having it, and Poe (being an only child with one parent) is devastated. They end up on very bad terms.

How they resolve this is anyone's guess. Maybe Poe elopes with Finn anyway, deals with the fallout of his choice. Maybe Poe takes Finn to Yavin 4 for a surprise visit, and naturally Kes can't resist Finn's charm. Maybe Leia talks some sense into Kes. Angst or happy ending are both OK.
