When those still loyal to the Empire were forced to evacuate after the Empire's fall, little baby Hux (only 4 at the time) somehow got separated from his parents and was left behind.

Cut to Han (or Chewie) finding a redhead kid, dressed in typical Empire fashion, hiding in their cargo hold, crying his eyes out.

Han: Well.... shit.

+ Han (and Leia) DO try and find the kid's parents but he only knows them by "Mama" and "Papa" and only knows his first name (or maybe pronounces 'Hux' wrong so that's no help)
+ Hux basically imprints on Han/Chewie and cries whenever they leave.
+ Han, Chewie (and Leia) don't really want to give the kid back to what's left of the Empire (who knows what they'd do to him!)
+ Hux and infant!Ben

It's my headcanon specifically for this prompt that lil!Hux pronounces his last name as "Hugs" and whoever's asking immediately goes 'aw' and hugs the poor lost lamb and stops pestering him for his last name for a while.

*SCREECHES* THAT IS SO ADORABLE I WANT TO KICK YOU AND HUG YOU

Aw. Awww. I keep picturing lil Hux and Ben vying for attention and approval from Han/Chewie/Leia like they did with Snoke, except this time no one grows up to be a mass murderer. It's a healthy sibling rivalry that maybe helps them through all of their shit? And they both run around the Falcon playing Who Shot First, which has Leia quirking her brows at Han, all: "you are such a bad influence on my sweet precious babies." Then both boys noisily run past calling each other 'scruffy-looking nerf herder!' and 'laser brain!' and Han just smoothly raises his brows right back at her.

25 YEARS LATER: Senator Hux Organa-Solo ("Motion to finally stop everyone in this damn family from calling me 'Hugs' now." "MOTION DENIED, HUGS." "Motherrrr!") enjoys shouting down anyone who tries to talk shit about his ~~bratty~~ loose-canon jedi brother Ben, who has chucked his training, changed his name, and decided to become a smuggler. He's still worried though so he sends ~Kylo~ a brief looping hologram of Hux flipping him off forever, titled: CAREFUL, BEN.

Han's like, "I'm so proud of them, it's like I've been stabbed in the chest with fatherly pride. Patripride?" Leia's like, "How'd both my sons get so tall tho?" Chewie's like, "(THEY TAKE AFTER ME)"

Everything in this is so cute it cured my cancer.

HUGGGGGGSSSSSS! Omg.

Chewie is basically their second dad, watching the boys when Han gets arrested or is in hiding, and Leia is off doing freedom fighter stuff. He's better at disciplining them too, because he can do the sad growl thing that tells them just how DISAPPOINTED he is.
Maybe he teaches them how to make their own Bowcasters, as is Wookie tradition, and sees Hux's affinity for designing weapons. They bond over debating power vs range, what materials work best, etc.

I'm on board for Second Dad Best Dad Chewbacca, BUT have you considered the potential of Second Dad Overwhelmed Dad Chewbacca? One hairy arm full of screaming baby Ben (shitting himself like a champion) and the other holding a wailing ginger toddler ("shtop aqua fessing to dithorder!!") while Chewie warble-howls some frightening Wookiee lullaby (Lumpy's fave), and the kids cry even harder, so he howls even louder, the three of them a disharmonious cacophony of stress and frustration.

And the (latest) irate space gang that wanted revenge on Han Solo stops outside the Millennium Falcon, hears the madness coming from within, from the worst a cappella trio ever, and decides to come back another time.

Oh god, I can't stop laughing, that's an awesome mental picture..! Poor Chewie!

I can just imagine Han and Chewie willfully ignoring any 'missing' posters featuring a kid that TOTALLY DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THEIR LITTLE GINGER BABY WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WAT

Leia finds out and disapproves but whenever someone from the old empire/first order/anyone who might recognize Hux, she suddenly suggests a game of hide and seek. Totally legitimate game! Totally not hiding the fact that she might have adopted a missing imperial child and doesn't want to give him back, wat.

And when Hux is older and figures out what they're doing, starts hiding himself away because he heard stories of that Academy that got going on over there and no thank you
