The Old Jedi Order Actually Had Very Logical Rules

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
The real reason Jedi weren't supposed to have attachments or emotional connections in the old Order had a practical reason--any encounter/shared experience with an adult Jedi that left a strong emotional imprint formed a permanent telepathic connection. Luke's always been a bit of a loner, so he didn't have that many and didn't think it through---Leia's his sister, Han married his sister, Kenobi and Yoda were his Masters and none of his students were far enough along to run into the problem.

But now Rey's around and her training's progressing very well and with Luke not enforcing the old code, she's happily having all sorts of bonding time (and some personal exploration of her physical preferences) with, well, a good chunk of the Resistance base. And no one realized before that the links are with the Jedi and everyone else they're linked to...Rey's head is suddenly a bit crowded.

More fun:
-Leia is concerned but also completely thrilled. A whole squad/strike team that will never have to worry about trackers or broken coms? A tactician's dream as soon as they stop mentally tripping each other.
-Rey is not amused until she figures out a way to manage them somehow/everyone learns how to shield, then she likes not being so alone in her head.
-Bonus if Luke had/has one with Wedge but always figured it was a Force soulmate thing because Luke is a total sap
