When Adam told Jessa that on last night's episode of girls, I immediately thought of Reylo especially in light of her telling him that they couldn't be together because they would destroy each other and the relationship would end with him in a body-bag and her pregnant and on the run to the Mexican border, and then still ending up flicking the bean next to him on her couch..

But... Rey's accent isn't fake? Presumably her accent is the one that comes most naturally to her and feels most comfortable?

Jessa's accent isn't fake either? Adam is just trying to get her to admit that she likes him (which she does).

Okay. I'm not sure I understand how someone can "hide behind" an accent when it's just the natural way they speak, but I'm sure other commenters might understand the concept better than I do. :)

They're saying they think Rey/Jessa should be speaking American.

I don't think it's supposed to make all that much sense, honestly. He's just frustrated because he thinks she's hiding her true feelings. People say weird things in the heat of the moment sometimes. The connection in his mind might be that there's a stereotype that British people are cold.

so obviously he was right about her being into him even if it is a terrible idea for them to get together.

Oh okay, thanks. I hadn't heard of that stereotype before, so that is probably why I didn't get it.

yeah, it's probably the most enduring stereotype about us Brits. and the whole prudish thing.

lol, really? I'm a Brit and I thought the stereotype these days was insular football hooligans... with maybe a slight remnant of the old school stiff-upper-lip thing.

The American stereotype of the accent is more uptight and snobbish than prudish.

The upper class accent that Americans think all Brits speak is only spoken by like 3% of us and most of those are uptight and snobbish posh people. So you're right to an extent.
