Poe/Finn // Finn's confused because he's a janitor, not a Soldier

Starkiller was obvi huge, so what if people who grew up in different parts had their own society.

Like, sanitation is normally lumped with maintenance, so he should probably know what some things are but he's completely oblivious on what's what. Different regional words and customs would probably be a better reason on why Finn is so different and weird, better than just him being an ex-Stormtrooper. He's an ex janitor forced into combat and has no idea what's happening...

+1 That's a different way to think about it...

You must mean an AU for this, right? Because FN-2187 is canonically Captain Phasma's top cadet, singled out for future officer training, and held up as an example for his other stormtroopers.

Think OP is going on the line in the movie where Finn said he worked in sanitation...

laughing at the canonically line, like, this is on the same page with Phasma fucking Finn as punishment and Hux in a slave outfit, I doubt we're going with canon at this point...

Those prompts don't change their professions and abilities, only their circumstances. The fandom needs to stop stripping Finn of his proficiency as a Stormtrooper and demoting him to menial work.

I haven't seen that, there's one on this page exactly about Finn being a trained soldier, but this prompt explores him as what he says, a trooper working in sanitation. If he was the elite in canon (which doesn't matter much if all the OP did was watch the movie) then there's some flaws in the thinking of Finn as a character as a whole. If the massacre which he refused to take part in was his first mission, then why would Phasma have him as her protege? He clearly wasn't up for the job. Even though he was a quick study with Poe during his escape, he should have obviously shown signs of dissent earlier in his training. And let's be clear here, his proficiency isn't something to be proud of, he's not there by choice. He was taken. He's was/is a child soldier, so let's not make him out to be some hero of justice in the first order.

Read "Before the Awakening".

OP here- If you don't like the prompt, could you move on? I'm not really privy to doing outside homework when asking for a prompt. Not to say that EU stuff isn't interesting, but I'm just going off the movie. In which we see Finn being the opposite of perfect Stormtrooper, and I just offered a different reason why.

I wasn't insulting him. He's shown to be quite gifted in a pinch but a terrible Stormtrooper. So yeah.

+1

Finn not hanging out with the pilots but with maintenance doing what he knows best-> helping out where help is needed. He's obviously not a blind fighter, he's good in theory, but really just wants to help out people.

I get what you're saying OP, don't worry. (If I was a better writer, I'd do this one myself...)
