Snoke wants Kylo to commit to the Dark Side. Rey, Leia, and the entire Resistance want to drag Ben back to the Light.

It all comes to a head during a decisive battle when Kylo Ben finally snaps and starts screaming at everyone. He never wanted to be a Jedi! He is sick and tired hurting people, he's disgusted with being an object of pity for the Resistance, he hates the Dark Side, he hates the Light Side, to hell with the Force!

Kylo Ben forswears the First Order in front of everyone, declares himself neutral, steals a ship, and goes off to do the one thing he's always wanted to do.

He's going to make the Kessel Run. In ten parsecs.

Bonus: Han is laughing in his Force-afterlife and cheering Ben on.
Bonus +: People keep trying to drag Kylo back to the Resistance or the First Order. Kylo Ben isn't having any of it.
Bonus ++: Kylo Ben ends up as King of the Smugglers.

I have always headcanonned that the Kessel Run being measured in parsecs is right and the challenge is not the speed but finding the shortest route, so I'd love to see this.

Enthusiastic anon from below here! In reality, a parsec is an official, scientific measure of distance, about 3.26 lightyears (31 trillion kilometers/19 trillion miles). According to the Kessel Run entry on Wookieepedia, the route is officially eighteen parsecs long.

Also, a mental image I have to share: Kylo flying so close to one of the black holes in the Maw that he's practically skipping across the event horizon, just to shave off more lightyears.

Oh I know a parsec is a unit of distance, it's just so many people over the decades take the '12 parsecs' as intended to be a unit of time and lol beecause that's not what a parsec is. Glad to know my headcanon is supported by the official retconning of the line that's been done since the original release. :D

My apologies! I misunderstood your previous comment, and apparently we are fellow fans frustrated with inaccuracies in the astronomical units of measure used by the fandom. But yep, both the Legends tab and the main canon tab for the Kessel Run on Wookieepedia explicitly say the Run is about shortest distance, not quickest time, in regards to parsecs.

yes! is Hux his co-pilot or more of a port visit? Or did he refuse to have anything to do with this? Wait, what happens if Hux and Chewie end up as Kylo's only crew?!

Honestly, I think that Kylo Ben doesn't have a crew - or if he does, they're not main cast.

...although I have the lovely mental image of various Resistance and First Order ships waiting at crucial points on the Run, trying to catch him when he comes out of hyperspace, only for Kylo to blow past all of them.
