FILL - Re: Leia & Poe, de-aging

(Anonymous) 2021-01-16 12:48 am (UTC)(link)

Leia entered the medical bay and froze. Chewbacca was holding a boy who had Poe’s look and coloring, Finn looked like he had been the victim of a bantha stampede, and Rey just looked both angry and upset.

“What happened? Rey?”

Rey frowned as the boy cried out as they tried to pull him off Chewbacca. “I don’t know, the facility that we went to see was gender restricted, I had to wait outside. There was a flash from inside, a loud noise and it felt like a surge through the force and a few minutes later they came out just about like this.” She waved a hand at them.

“Finn?” Leia asked.

Before he could answer, Poe piped up, “You’re Ben’s mama.”

Leia looked at the little boy and smiled sadly, “Yes I am.” She nodded at Finn, who did not get it, “Finn, what happened?”

Finn told of the gentle flirting that went on between the governor’s son and Poe and the offense the governor had taken to this and the strange red globe he threw at his son, which hit the ground at Poe’s feet instead.

Poe had been hanging onto Chewbacca the whole time and protested whenever someone tried to prise him free. Finally Leia walked over and pulled the child off, then set him on the examination table. “Now, Poe, you are going to sit here and let the doctors look you over.” She said in her best mother voice.

“Okay.”

Leia listened to Dr. Kelonia report that Poe was now for all intents and purposes a healthy five year, he did not seem to have any memories past about that age. “Him recognizing you was a good sign.”

“You do tend to remember memorable things, the first time they met, Ben had eaten too many cookies and threw up on Poe.”

Dr. Kelonia chuckled, “Well my official diagnosis is wait and see if it wears off.”

“And if not?”

“His father is still alive.”

“And not a young man anymore.”

“And neither was Shara’s father when he took Poe in so both Kes and Shara could join the rebellion.” Kelonia said. “Let’s give it a few days and wait to hear back from the team you sent back there.”

Leia took it upon herself to supervise Poe. She made his space just off to the side of her desk so they could see each other. He was a very good child, playing with the improvised blocks, watching the child friendly holos Leia scrounged up for him.

She was deeply involved in reading an intelligence report when she heard a stifled cry. She looked over and gasped as Poe was twitching, his little body stiff. She hit the medical emergency button, then dropped next to him, calling out his name and trying to keep him from smacking his head into a wall or cabinet.

“He grew an estimated three years in an hour.” Dr. Kelonia reported then looked up as Rey and Connix entered the room.

“What did you find out?” Leia asked them.

“It took three days for the governor to even speak with us. It’s a common punishment on his world, and he is hugely angry that Poe got in the way but reassures us that it will wear off in a few days or up to a fortnight.” Rey caught Leia’s concern, “General?”

“The accelerated growth spurts are painful, I thought he was having a seizure, he’s resting right now.”

Rey followed Leia into the room where a now eight-year-old Poe was sleeping. Leia sighed looking at the sleeping boy and resisted the urge to brush the hair out of his face like she had done often to Ben until he started pulling away when he saw her hand coming at him. She actually found it funny when he would sigh dramatically and tousle his hair when he thought she was no longer looking.

Leia watched as Rey reached out and brushed the hair out of Poe’s face. While the young woman did that Leia grabbed a blanket and covered Poe with it. “I think we should continue to keep him in my office, no sense in the whole base, already?”

“Afraid so, general.”

Leia only sighed. “Stay here with him, I have to get back to my office, but let me know when he wakes up. I may need you to stay with us.”

*

Leia gave Poe a flight simulator in return for him staying in her office and relatively still.

“Why can’t I go outside? I’ll go crazy if I have to sit still any longer!”

“Think of it as an extended period of study.”

“You wouldn’t make Ben do this.”

While his innocent statement stung Leia did not let it show on her face. “You’d hate Ben’s curriculum. I’ll see if Rey has some time in her schedule to take you out to the woods.”

“Rey! Slow down!”

Rey halted and turned, smiling at Poe coming to a halt some distance behind her. “It’s not too much further back to base, then you can sit in General Leia’s office for the rest of the day.”

Poe groaned at the thought while he caught his breath. He looked up as she walked closer. “So, where’s Ben? Why isn’t he with her? Where’s General Solo? I mean, his Wookie friend Chewie is here?”

Rey waited until he took a breath and said, “Things have happened, it’s probably best to not ask her about any of this, it makes her sad.”

Poe frowned then nodded.

“Race you!” Rey said, seconds from sprinting away.

“Aw, Hey!”

*

Fourteen-year-old Poe was a sulky and openly defiant creature. Leia let him go out with Rey and Finn, but otherwise he was confined to her office. He listened to the explanation why but was still impatient and fidgeted.

She saw him get up and head for the door, “Where do you think you are going?”

“Out.” He jumped back as the door closed in front of him. “I can take care of myself.”

“You still need an escort.” Leia said, signaling for Rey to come to her office. She watched as Poe struggled to open the door.

“You wouldn’t do this to Ben.” He muttered.

Leia felt her temper begin to boil over and fought for calm and to keep the door closed. “No, by the time Ben was your age he was immersed in Jedi studies, knew four languages, could pilot nine different classes of vessels, with a deep understanding of history and the sciences. He could also sit still for hours at a time and knew not to push my temper by disobedience.”

Poe stopped trying to force the door and looked at her, then ducked his head. “Sorry, ma’am.”

Leia pointed to the seat and he sat quietly until Rey showed up. “Rey dear, would you take Poe out and show him the basics of staff fighting?”

“Yes, General.” Rey could tell they were both in a subdued post fight state. “Come on Poe, we’ll find you a staff.”

*

Poe moaned and opened his eyes to see Leia looking down at him, with what could be considered motherly concern. “General? What happened? Where’s Thule?”

“The governor’s son? Under house arrest according to Lieutenant Connix, no, don’t sit up, not yet.”

“There was a flash, then a bang, then this awful taste in my mouth.” Poe shifted, “I can’t move.”

“I’m holding you down, because I know you don’t always follow directions.” Leia said while getting up to get back to her chair while the medical staff entered the office. She smiled as he tried to slip her grip.

They bundled him out of her office destined for the medical bay. Leia remembered how Ben would try to slip her grip, then resort to just turning his big eyes to her silently pleading for release.

Leia shook her head and tried to return to her work. She got up and secured her door, then returned to her chair. She sat quietly for a moment then pulled a small holoprojector out of her pocket.

She played all ten of the holos on the device and watched her son go from an infant to a preadolescent. She would never confess, not even under torture, that she sometimes watched Kylo Ren’s speeches on mute, just to see him. “Ben.” She sighed, put the projector away then returned to her work.
