Are there even kites in the Star Wars universe? I know mynocks technically are kite-like when it comes to the vacuum of space, but still. Hux totally wouldn't know wtf those are, Arkanis has a policy against whimsical fun.

My extensive research on this matter (five seconds on wookieepedia) says kites ARE a thing: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_kite
and because it's star wars, this simple childhood pleasure involves combat for some reason. Fingers-crossed that Kylo get's beaten up by a kite in the next film.

Whimsy is definitely forbidden on Arkanis, but I bet exhibitions of The Decadent Distractions Of The New Republic were popular as class field trips, kids coming in to perfect their disdainful sneers. Hux still doesn't know what a kite is because he never had to go on those trips, he's been sneering at a post-graduate level since before he could walk.
