Finn/Poe established, h/c, Poe trusts medic Finn to use the Force to heal him
(Anonymous) 2016-02-14 10:16 am (UTC)(link)Poe has horrible migraines (stress, recent injuries, aftermath of torture, reasons are up to author). They're so bad they actually impair his ability to fly, so in addition to feeling physically ill he's also miserable and feeling useless and medication isn't helping that much. Finn knows he could help, but considering Poe's last experience with someone using the Force on him it probably wouldn't be a welcome suggestion. That is, until Poe himself asks Finn to help him.
++ cuddling and hair stroking and forehead kisses
+++ Finn gets a little misty-eyed at how readily and completely Poe trusts him with something he's had terrible experiences of
++++ happy end. The migraines don't magically go away all at once, but Finn's intervention helps a lot and Poe is soon back on his feet
+++++ seriously, forehead kisses, I have such a thing for this and I would love you forever for including them

“Have you seen Poe?”
Finn feels a bit foolish, wandering around the pilots’ hangar without any sense of where to go or who to ask, but he’s also never really minded feeling foolish. When he was a stormtrooper, there wasn’t any room for one to feel self-conscious or embarrassed. You did what you had to do, and that was that. Stormtroopers weren’t inclined to bouts of self-reflection either, and Finn—new-and-improved ex-stormtrooper that he was—isn’t inclined in that direction either.
Maybe it’ll come later, after he’s begun to adjust to his new life out from under the collective thumb of the First Order. Or maybe it’ll never come. He isn’t sure.
(He’s also not sure which option he’d prefer.)
Finn spots Poe’s lieutenant, Jessika Pava, tending to her X-Wing with a welding iron. There’s a shower of sparks that reflect in the thick black glass that shields her eyes. For a moment, Finn thinks about the destruction of Starkiller Base, thinks about the cries of thousands of voices that Finn felt more than heard in his brain. He pushes the haunting echoes aside and clears his throat to grab her attention. He repeats his question.
“He was here just a little while ago, but,” Pava pauses and lifts her glossy black welding mask—which reminds Finn of Kylo Ren for just a moment—and props it over her ears. “Said he wasn’t feeling well. He’s probably back in his room, resting up.”
“Resting up?” Finn echoes.
“When it gets bad,” she says, gentling her tone. “He gets headaches, sometimes. Really bad ones. But they’ve been getting worse ever since…” She trails off, regarding Finn with a raised eyebrow and a knowing look he doesn’t think he likes.
“Since the Finalizer?” Finn asks. Since Kylo Ren.
Pava shifts her gaze away, down to the welding iron in her gloved hands. She flips her helmet back down over her face and Finn suppresses a shudder. “Yeah. He should be—”
Finn is already turning on his heel and running for the barracks before Pava can finish.

There’s no stripe of honey-gold light coming from under Poe’s chamber door, which is the first sign something’s not right. The second sign that something isn't right is Finn can’t hear any noises: no music, no singing, no BB-8 chattering and beeping in a language Finn still hasn't quite gotten the hang of yet.
Finn touches the cool, sleek durasteel nameplate over the keypad on the door. P-O-E D-A-M-E-R-O-N spelled out in raised block lettering, first in Basic and again in Poe’s native Yavinian. He presses his thumb against the thumbpad and hopes the door recognizes him. He’s never had to use it to get into Poe’s room before.
He should probably have second thoughts about letting himself into Poe’s room—what if Poe’s not here or, worse yet, what if he is?—but his concern for Poe’s well-being takes precedence. Surely, someone like Poe—someone as protective of his friends as Poe is—would understand.
The door slides open with a sigh and Finn steps in.
“Room, lights to thirty percent illumination,” Finn calls out, letting the door shut behind him.
Then, he hears it. A low, pained groan.
“Lights, don’t listen to him. He doesn't know what he’s saying,” comes Poe’s raspy voice.
The lights brighten anyway, just a little bit, to reveal Poe curled in a sweaty, shivering heap on his bed.
“Poe, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Finn rushes over to Poe’s side and crouches down until they're eye level. He reaches instinctively for the medkit he usually carries clipped to his belt before remembering he left it in the medbay.
“I’m fine,” Poe says, opening bleary, miserable eyes. He squints at Finn and tosses off a shallow approximation of his usual friendly, confident smirk.
Finn reaches out, hesitates for just a moment before coming to a decision—just get over yourself, Finn, now is not the time—and touching Poe’s forehead. Poe’s skin is slippery with sweat, hair clinging to his forehead and temples in wet clumps, and he’s as hot as the arid atmosphere of Jakku.
“I should get you to the medbay,” Finn says, smoothing Poe’s damp hair away from his face.
Poe closes his eyes and tilts his head up against the movements of Finn’s fingers, for just a moment. “It’s nothing. I get them all the time,” Poe grits out between his teeth. His jaw clenches, tightens, before releasing.
“What are they, exactly?” Finn asks, settling on his knees beside the bed.
“Headaches,” Poe mutters. “Hereriem.”
“What?” Finn leans in and fits his fingers around Poe’s wrist, feeling for his pulse. The skin of his wrist is hot and dry.
“It’s what we call them back on Yavin IV. Lightning in the skull.” Poe winces, chokes out a laugh.
“Oh,” Finn says. “I knew them as migraines.”
“You have them too?” Poe asks, letting Finn get an arm about his shoulders to help him sit up.
“Not frequently,” Finn says. He worries at his bottom lip for a moment before adding, “I only got them after difficult missions. And once after I was, uh, Reconditioned.”
“You got Reconditioned?” Poe stares at him wide-eyed, horror-stricken.
“Well, yeah. When I was a kid. It wasn't painful or anything,” Finn says, though he doesn't quite remember if it was or wasn’t.
He does remember things he shouldn’t, though. Reconditioning should have shattered these memories and swept away the pieces. He remembers flashes of a woman in white robes, a teacher maybe, who’d infected his whole class with Resistance teachings. Finn and his class had been taken for Reconditioning. He doesn’t remember what happened to the teacher, but he’s certain it was nothing good.
“I’m sorry,” Poe says, his voice thick with regret, gritted over with pain.
Finn nods, mostly to himself and the flash of memory that still dances at the edges of his recollection. He doesn't reach for the memory now; instead, he reaches out and slides his fingers between Poe’s, linking their hands.
“Come with me to medbay, please,” he says, pulling gently.
“All right,” Poe agrees.
