[FILL] Ready, Aim, Fire 2/?

(A/N I'm retconning the X-Wing to something bigger because when I looked it up it turned out to be IMPOSSIBLE for an X-Wing to carry three grown adults.)

Finn asked the questions and every time she answered – no matter what she answered – he was punished. Tortured. And when it stopped Finn would force himself back up, straight backed.

Rey would have been in tears if the desert hadn’t dried all hers up years before. She’d told them she was telling the truth. She’d told them to stop and told them to leave. Finn’s voice was steel-cored but rasping and broken.

She was reduced to screaming insults in seven different languages.

“Where is General Leia?” Finn asked for the third time.

For the third time she answered their captors truthfully. “I don’t know, you glistening heap of happabore hock!”

Finn couldn’t scream anymore. When the man pulled back his baton he took too long to recover. The woman grabbed him by the ear to drag him back to his knees.

An explosion rocked the complex. “FN-2187, stay,” the woman snapped without hesitation. She led the man as they both hurried out of Rey’s field of vision.

They hadn’t even reached the door before there was another explosion, this one even closer. The walls creaked and her lightbox walked forward on its shelf.

For a long moment the only sound in the room was Finn’s labored breathing. He managed to stand and lock eyes with Rey. “You know what’s happening,” he said.

Plan B.

Rey didn’t answer that.

“Tell me –“

A third explosion, so near it forced a curve into the wall and knocked Finn back off his feet. A fourth close behind it deformed the wall to breaking. Huge chunks of twisted metal, wiring, and ducting screamed through the air and Finn disappeared in the wreckage.

Of course now was the moment her grasp on the Force worked well enough to pull her weapon from its fall and into her hand. Not that it would do any good.

In the wrecked hole, the dust cleared to reveal Poe scrambling into the room. “Rey?” he cried when he caught sight of her.

“No!” she shouted. “You’ve dropped the Ashla-crudding wall on Finn!”
Poe almost fell off the rubble, cursing. He started shifting what he could until he revealed a hand, an arm, Finn’s head. Whole. Intact.

“He’s still breathing,” Poe said. He launched himself at Rey to undo the restraint holding her right arm down. As soon as the strap was loosened he was back to digging Finn free. “How badly are you hurt?” he called back to her.

With one hand free it was simple for her to loosen and undo her other restraints so that she could join him. “I’m fine. Its Finn they were torturing. How far do we have to go?”

“Just in the there. Ship I used has an escape pod.”

Together they hauled Finn’s limp body free – Rey kept checking he breathed, Poe cursed that he wasn’t wearing the armor. Just as they each got an arm around their shoulders, their captors announced their return with a shouted, “Halt!”

Poe ducked back out of supporting Finn to stand against them. Under his protective fire Rey managed to drag Finn up and over the rubble behind the relative safety of the remaining wall. Poe followed behind her, never turning from their enemy. He jerked his chin in the direction she should go and they retreated even further.

The blaster fire exploded around them and filled the already dusty air with smoke and the smell of burning metal. Poe had obviously thought their retreat through and left the escape pod detached and door-opened.
Rey hurled herself and Finn through and was in the pilot’s seat and closing the door by the time Poe jump in after.

Escape pods were small and defenseless compared to the sort of carrier they came attached to, but their shielding had no problem absorbing a little blaster fire. Rey coaxed the little pod into the air, fighting the increased gravity, the controls mushy and less responsive than they should have been.

She found out why as they skimmed into the air above the complex, barely scraping over the undamaged roof sections. The pod jerked and popped and finally flew free and easy as outside the Stormtrooper who had grabbed hold hit the edge of wall and roof and was knocked clear.

Poe and she managed to switch off at the controls once they were clear of the compound so that he could fly them to the hidden C-Wing. The escape pod would take them a short distance, but it wasn’t built to fly planetside and wouldn’t have been able to escape the planet’s gravity.

Rey moved back to Finn’s side to find him thankfully groaning and trying to move. When she put a hand to his shoulder and told him to lie still he did as she said.

Their pursuers were airborn by the time they left the perimeter. Less than a mile further and Poe brought them down in a rocky, tumbling landing that had Rey shouting about broken limbs and getting them all killed.

Miraculously, they were able to make it from the pod to the fighter before the enemy ships caught up with them. BB-8, waiting patiently in the cowling, yelled at them to hurry and they had just managed to dump Finn behind the pilot’s seat when the little bot spotted the first fighter.

It was less than thirty minutes from when Poe had burst through the cell wall to when they blasted their way back into space. Free of gravity, Poe had no problem dodging fire and keeping ahead of their pursuers. When he pulled them into the hyperspace path they’d taken to the planet and jumped Rey laughed and hugged him from her seat – an easy thing in such tight quarters.

She held onto him through it as the acceleration played ugly tricks with her head injury. It was distracting and all she could see out of her left eye was pink and red. Maybe that was why she didn’t notice Finn’s first movements.

They hadn’t had time to arrange themselves properly or even for her and Finn to climb back into the cargo and gunner area, so Finn was pressed into the back of the passenger seat sideways and Rey was between him and the back of the pilot’s seat. All Finn had to do was snap his leg out straight to kick Poe in the head.

He sent Poe sprawling forward into the controls and then they were all slammed against the unforgiving walls as the C-Wing fell violently out of hyperspace.
