Someone beat me to it, but I wrote this piece of crap, and goddamn it, I am going to post it.

The victory party was just getting started, the band playing a fast-paced jazzy number and the alcohol beginning to flow, and Rey was finally beginning to let herself relax. She didn't know how to dance or talk to politicians, but no one seemed to put too much stock in formality around here anyway, and there was free food, so she wasn't leaving.

She was on the sidelines, chatting with Poe and his squadron about X-Wing maintenance, when she felt a familiar presence and looked up to see Finn standing in the doorway – but not Finn as she had ever seen him before. He was wearing a black suit with gold trim at the collar and cuffs, the cut accentuating his broad shoulders, and despite the nervousness she sense emanating from him, he moved with poise and military discipline. He looked good. He looked really good.

She only had a second to admire the view, however, before the atmosphere was shattered by an ear-splitting, dissonant shriek. She jumped halfway out of her skin and spun in the direction of the noise, to see nothing more threatening than Poe looking embarrassed.

"What in the name of Vader's lacy underpants was that?" she hissed at Poe, who shrugged and shifted on his feet.

"That was, uh. A compliment. On my homeworld, it means someone's looking good."

There were a few seconds of awkward silence, as Rey took a calming breath and Poe's face grew steadily redder, and Finn blinked at them both in slightly dazed silence. Then the pilot that Rey was beginning to recognize as Jessika leaned over and mock-whispered, almost certainly loud enough for Finn to hear, "It's a mating call."

"It was a mating call," Poe snapped. "Millennia ago. Far enough back in our evolutionary history that we still had wings, for kriff's sake."

"As you can see, the instinct hasn't quite worked itself out yet," Jessika said with a grin. "I'll leave you fellas to it, then." With that, she elbowed Poe in the ribs and sauntered off in the direction of the bar, leaving the silence to settle again, hardly less awkward this time around. She could practically feel Poe contemplating a hasty retreat.

But retreat was never his style, and before Rey could figure out her own way to salvage the situation, he nodded to Finn, confident as anything, and said, "As I said, looking nice. Care to join us for a drink?"

Finn considered that, looking from Poe to Rey and back again like he wasn't sure how to respond, but it was only a moment before he stepped forward, smiling at least as wide as Jessika.

"Sure," he said. "And maybe you can tell me about your evolutionary history."

"Wings," Poe said. "I'm telling you, we were so much more badass than you mammals."

With that, he wrapped his arms around both their waists and led them toward the bar, and Rey didn't object. Precognition had never been her strong point, but she had enough of it to know exactly where the conversation – and the night – were headed, and when she thought about it, more alcohol might not be a bad idea. After all, she would probably need at least one more drink to keep from laughing like a maniac if it turned out that Poe also made screechy lizard noises in bed.

authoranon from the misfire fill below yours - this is amazing. The gifset of poe spotting fin for the first time after jakku will now always be accompanied in my head by Poe's shreiking reptilian mating call.

This is pure gold. I'm assuming Poe DOES make screechy lizard noises in bed sometimes and Rey tries to suppress the laughter, she really does, but sometimes it gets away from her.
