Finn (well, not Finn yet) is a spy, send to "rescue" Poe as part of the plan - either to easily find BB-8 or to infiltrate the Resistance. Somewhere along the way he starts doubting his mission.

+he wasn't on the Jakku during the assault on the village, so he doesn't know what a battle is like

+he knows about Slip's death and initially hates Poe because of it

+full heel-face-turn happens after Han's death
