Do you think the tendency to ship Rey as asexual or a lesbian is out of genuine interest to see those interpretations or because it's an easy way to get her out of the way of Finn/Poe without bashing her?
I only ask because I've seen this happen in a lot of other fandoms where people ship the main slash pairing but don't want to bash the female character, and she's almost always written as asexual or a lesbian with an OC or minor character. The only discussion I've seen about this is that some people view her as asexual because she didn't want to hold Finn's hand (which, okay, I wouldn't want to hold the hand of a stranger I'd just met either), but that seems like a pretty flimsy excuse since she has no problem physically interacting with Finn later and asexuality doesn't mean not wanting physical affection.
I guess I prefer this over the trend of bashing any female character who came between the major slash pairing and turning her into a raging jerk, but it sometimes it still makes me wary.
