I'm glad it ended up working for you! Landa just took over the role in my head, and it was easier to let it happen.

Re: Fill: Hux/Kylo Ren undying Fake Dating/married trope (3)

Am I taking this too far? I think I am but my world will be fleshed out \o/

------

Belmont Court on the Sea, the ancestral Hux family home, was built in 1856, it's châteauesque design dreamt up by some famed architect of the time. In 1902, a fire destroyed the right wing of the home which prompted Aldous Hux, the famed industrialist and a stubborn man, to remodel the wing in his preferred baroque style. Against the urging of several architect, the remodeling was completed in the spring of 1903. Belmont Court on the Sea thus became the eyesore of the suburban village wherein it resided, with several petitions having circulated since it's completion to coverup or destroy the offending mismatch of stylistic design and coloring.

"I've only ever read about Belmont Court." Ren marvels as the car slowly pulls up the strip near the front door of the home. "I can't believe it actually exists."

"It's an embarrassment." Hux frowns. "All of the trees surrounding the house weren't there when it was originally built; they were planted secretly by my great-grandmother in the hopes that one day the entire manor would be covered from public sight."

"I get it." Ren nods, eyes still canvassing the length of the home. "I would want this for my eyes only, too. Few people truly understand the beauty of Belmont Manor."

"What are you talking about?" Hux's eyebrow rose, "This place shows a blatant disregard for aesthetics, taste and sensibility."

"You don't understand a creative vision," Ren says as he exits the car, begrudgingly working his way towards Mrs. Hux, who is waving enthusiastically at the door. Hux shakes his own head as he exits the vehicle.

A blatant disregard for aesthetics, taste and sensibility. Of course he liked it: Ren was the human manifestation of Belmont Manor.

When they arrived at the door, Mrs. Hux ushers them in. "Darlings, come in, come in! It's been so long since Dolly's been home! His brother and sister are just dying to meet you!" Her eyes divert to Hux as she lightly and playfully slaps his elbow, "I finally managed to dig up Phasma! And darling little Finn took the first flight home once I told him the news!"

"Finn's here?" Ren notices how quickly the color withdrew from the older man's face.

"Of course! He was shocked, dear!" Mrs. Hux tutted in disappointment, "How could you manage to track that sister down to tell her but not tell your sweet little brother? He absolutely adores you! You should have heard my little angel's voice, so heartbroken at being the last to know!"

"Heartbroken?" Hux choked out. Ren's eyebrow rose slightly in fascination.

Once Mrs. Hux excused herself to check on lunch, Ren cleared his throat with a fake cough to break the murky atmosphere. "Is there, uh, maybe something I should know about you and your brother?"

"Nothing you need to know." Hux replied coldly.

"Okay, okay..." Ren shrugged, holding up his hands as if to say he'll back off the topic, "Just wanted to know for work's sake. I am not personally interested in knowing what is going between you and your little brother, all right? That's your own messed up family business."

"I wasn't fucking him, if that's what you think, okay?" Hux shoots, a little more defensively than needed.

"Woah.," Ren threw his hands up again in mock surrender as he whistled out his reply. "Whatever, man. Your prerogative."

"Damnit Ren, I just haven't seen him in a while!" Hux practically shouted before catching his tone, "That's it, okay?"

The room fell silent after Ren shrugged. He proceeded to walk down the length of the mantel of the sitting room Mrs. Hux had deposited them in, absent-mindedly observing the photos and other objects that littered the surface as his mind wandered to the little outburst Hux just had.

Hux wasn't a regular customer of his. He's probably only seen Hux a handful of times. Regardless, he always stuck out in Ren's mind. Unlike his other customers, who'd linger even when Ren had finished his job, Hux would roll right out of bed and start dressing before Ren even told him to leave. Paid upfront, always cut to the chase, didn't want any false semblance of romance. Hux was there for the exact same reason Ren was: pure, raw, unadulterated sex for money. The ideal customer as far as he's concerned. That's probably why the sudden burst of emotion surprised Ren: Hux is normally so detached, never a crack in his stone-cold face outside the brief moment of orgasm. But the Hux in front of him felt. Felt things about a mysterious little brother.

Come to think of it, Ren considers the entire Hux family. The mysterious little brother. The dead father. The elusive sister. The shrieking mother. All growing up and living in Belmont Court together. This just being a job, Ren reaffirms, but his curiosity was piqued by the family. He might as well amuse himself in it.

"My! So quiet, boys?" Mrs. Hux's voice cut through the silence. She walked into the room then turned around to address a party just outside the door, "Come along, children, don't be shy."

Ren, in new found resolve, peers at the pair emerging from the door. A tall, suntanned woman with short blonde hair dressed in tattered jeans and a loose v-neck tee tucked in haphazardly. The elusive sister. Following her was a short, innocent-looking dark-skin man in a worn leather jacket, jeans and a black tee. The mysterious little brother.

Mrs. Hux, the shrieking mother, speaks again. "Ben, darling, this is my oldest Phasma and my youngest Finn. Darlings, this is Dolly's fiancée Ben."

"It's a pleasure to meet you both." Ren smiles, extending a hand towards Phasma. She returns with a half-hearted shake. He immediately extends the same hand to Finn, who grips firmly and shakes with enough enthusiasm for both he and his sister. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Finn."

Finn beams. "It's good to meet you, too, Ben!" The man still sitting behind Ben caught and held the younger man's attention. A lot quieter, cautious even, Finn greets him. "Hi, Bren."

"Hey, Finn..." Hux returns quietly, averting his eyes. Phasma nods in his direction. "Hey, Phasma."

Well, this is awkward. "Is lunch ready, Mother?" Ren smiled towards the older woman who was appraising the scene in disapproval. It surprised Ren how much like Hux she looked when a stern line was etched across her face.

Mrs. Hux snapped out of her trace with a start. "Oh, yes, darling!" She collects herself, "Come along, dears, let's go to the sunroom."

Ren allows everyone to leave before him so he can observe the chilly dynamic of the four Huxes in front of him. The tetrad moves with the same elegant, mechanical steps that Ren knows too well. They exude an atmosphere that seems to exclude him. That is until he realizes he himself has the pleasure of being another Hux family secret. A little laugh bubbles out of him at the thought which catches Hux's attention. The older man shoots a look of annoyance at his beau before turning into the sunroom.

This was going to be fun.

Fill - A Failure to Negotiate

Forgive me for just pooping this out and that it doesn't have much resolution

"BEN!"

The use of a name he has long ago shed gets him to stop, but that's not what makes him turn around. Though he recognizes the presence of his father, it's the accompanying one that has him whirling around on the bridge. The sight greeting his eyes has him nearly has him activating his light saber.

Shuffling along the length of the bridge in front of Han Solo with a blaster shoved under his chin and his hands restrained behind his back is General Hux. Through the blazing anger and irritation in his eyes, Ren also detects a hint of nervousness.

The idea of ripping the blaster out of Solo's hand materializes into reality, but the way he manages to hold on to the weapon at the first sign of a tug has Kylo abandoning that route. Especially now that the duo sways precariously on the bridge.

"WATCH IT, resistance scum!" hisses Hux in irritation but whatever else he has to say is cut off as Solo just jabs the gun harder underneath his jaw to make the man's mouth click shut.

It would be so easy to use the Force to fling his father into the abyss below them, but he knows that his father's death cannot come easily. Trying to do things that way will not silence the call of the light. Watching how his father handles the general though, Kylo Ren does not feel as conflicted about what he needs to do as he had in the past. In fact, every imperceptible wince from Hux just fuels him further.

"Ben," continues the older man as if there's nothing out of place about this whole scenario, "take off that mask. You don't need it."

Kylo fingers the hilt of his lightsaber as he stalks forward on the bridge. He knows what he has to do. "And why should I listen to you?"

As his eyes are trained solely on the general, he watches as the man's eyes widen comically, and he begins to splutter curses at Kylo Ren before being nudged into silence by the reminder of the blaster right beneath his jaw. His father gives what he must think is some emotionally endearing plea to look upon the face of his son. Hux just continues to breathe angrily and glare at him as if ordering him not to do it.

His mask comes off with a loud hiss and gets tossed behind him as he faces his father with an unreadable expression.

"Your son is dead," he continues.

Han shakes his head in disbelief. "No, my son is alive. Ben, come home with us before it's too late," comes the plea once again. "Snoke is just using you for your power, and you know it! There won't be anything left of you if you stay here." His father's voice seems to echo around them.

Uneasy silence follows until Kylo Ren responds in a low voice. "It's too late."

"It's not!" insists his father. Solo shuffles Hux forward while keeping his blaster in place as a reminder. "Do you honestly think Snoke is going to let you have this? It's a threat! Come home with us and at least something can be worked out."

The sneer that crosses Hux' face communicates what he thinks about that. But that look is wiped away as he catches sight of the hesitation warring on Kylo's face.

A part of him, the treacherously weak part that listens to the Light, knows this is true. That the path he has chosen does not allow for his indulgences with the general and that his master will put an end to it no matter how much Kylo begs. The rest of him wants to silence that traitorous voice, but if he tries to make a move against his father, he possibly endangers the general. Not moving might also provoke his father since he has a past of shooting first. Giving in to his father though would not only bring down Snoke's wrath, but would bring about Hux' death as the general would surely be executed for war crimes by the Resistance or whatever power takes over from the New Republic.

"I'm being torn apart," he mutters as he ventures closer to the duo. "I want to end this."

"How terrible for you," hisses Hux scathingly.

Han doesn't let this one by as he basically forces Hux's neck to crane backwards with another shove of the blaster. Otherwise this seems to be the magic phrase for Solo to gesture outward with his free hand. Though he still has his hostage firmly in hand, his body is somehow welcoming and open to the possibility of his son returning to him.

Kylo eyes this offered hand as he takes the steps he needs to be within range of the duo. He looks up to lock eyes with his father. "Will you really help me end it?"

"Anything." The look his father gives him is full of so much hope. He needs to snuff that out.

His lightsaber thrums to life as he's swinging it upward to disect his father. Though Kylo has caught him by surprise, Han reacts the way anyone like him with an ounce of self preservation would. He instinctively swings Hux in front of him as a shield.

Kylo hurriedly retracts his weapon and puts it away, but the damage is done. Hux is crying out in pain and falling forward as Han has released him in shock not believing his son capable of pulling such a move.

Kylo rushes to catch the man, and they stumble back on the bridge. He's aware of his father repeating his name to get his attention, but he's solely focused on the general. With a crush of his hands, the durasteel binders fall from Hux' wrists, and Kylo's hand flies to the nasty wounds and burns going into Hux' hip.

The general is barely conscious and with labored breaths mutters curses into Kylo's shoulder about how much of a kriffing violent child he is all while weakly clutching to his clothes. He hoists the man into his arms which is when he realizes that his father is now all the way at the other end of the bridge and safe from his retribution.

Han Solo throws him one more hesitant, pleading look, but Kylo just pushes thoughts of pain into his mind until the old man stumbles back with a cry while clutching his head.

Without another word Kylo Ren turns his back on him and barely manages to avoid the ensuing shot by Chewbacca before Han barks out an order to get the hell out. He'll finish his business with his father another day and finally silence that call to the light, but for now he has other pressing matters to attend to.

Fill: Colder Than the Moon (2/?), Kylo/Fem!Hux, Hux/M!OC

(Anonymous) 2016-02-29 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
The morning is frustratingly uneventful. Hux heads onto the bridge eager for a fight, some kind of game to play or a problem to solve. Perhaps a Resistance pilot will try to snoop around Starkiller again and she'll get to vaporize a ship, or there will be a catastrophic system failure and she'll get to sit down with someone clever from Engineering and decide where to reroute power. Unfortunately, there's not so much as a cave-in on the surface of Starkiller, so she leaves Mitaka in temporary charge of the bridge and starts to plot out a tour route for the officials.

The observation deck on the Finalizer is a bit of a luxury on a military ship, but Hux likes looking at problems from above. She sits down, datapad in hand, and takes a moment to admire the sheer scope of Starkiller. It's beautifully framed in the transparisteel of the window, white and luminous with snow. Nearly everyone had scoffed at her proposal for the superweapon. Another Death Star, but bigger--certainly not what people had expected from the brilliant young General Hux for her first commission. Nobody had looked beyond the sheer scope of the thing to consider what a weapon that ate the dark soul of a sun and ripped time-space to deliver its killing blow might suggest in terms of sheer cosmic possibility.

"I sensed your agitation in the Force, General. Let us speak freely."

Hux's shoulders go up around her ears as the harsh, vocoded words reach her. Kylo Ren's eerie brooding is rarely the kind of problem she enjoys solving. "I'm merely annoyed. We're hosting a ceremony soon, unfortunately. I need to work out some logistics. It will be formal wear, by the way." She eyes the Knight of Ren. His ragged cape and rough robe are unlikely to impress any of the top brass of the old Empire. Too bad the dented, rough helmet can't be helped. "You might have that helmet mended, if you must keep it on," she adds.

"It is as much a part of my uniform as your braids to you," Ren says. Hux can feel an eerie sensation at the back of her neck, as though phantom hands were touching her neatly coiled braids. She can hear Ren's footsteps as he gets nearer to her.

"My concern is for your vision, Lord Ren. Can you even see out of the sides?"

"Vision is a distraction in battle. The Force shows me my enemies."

Hux gestures to the wraparound viewscreens, the field of space in all directions. "You're not in battle. Feel free to remove your helmet."

Ren's hand lands on her shoulder. "You are trying to antagonize me, General. I think it's best you desist before further hostilities...occur."

"On one condition."

"Name your terms." Hux mimes lifting off a helmet. Ren's answering huff is translated through the vocoder as a low growl. "That would be surrender."

"I think it's reasonable. I do have the ability to transfer the object of my attention to anything else about your person, where your only weapon is whatever you consider hostility to be." Hux fingerquotes the word hostility. "I have many choices--you have one. I have the upper hand."

"Many choices does not guarantee success. I could destroy you at any time."

Hux sighs. "You're not a dejarik player, are you?"

"On the contrary. I learned to play dejarik very early life. The most valuable lesson I took from the game was that you cannot win at dejarik if you suddenly find yourself with broken fingers."

"That is...technically correct."

"I find it to be the most interesting kind of correct." Ren stands in what Hux hopes is awkward silence. "Why do you want me to remove my helmet?"

Hux sneaks a glance at Ren's hands. They're covered in thick gloves, as usual. She wonders what she'd find if he took off them off. Bent fingers, or scars? "You have the advantage whenever we talk. You can see my face; I can't see yours."

"On the contrary, General. Surely you've adapted to compensate for the loss of information by now. But I still cannot--"

Ren stops, and then lifts his hands to his face. Hux hears the hiss of his helmet opening. She refuses to look away as he lifts it off, as dark clouds of unruly hair fall around the Knight's shoulders. He shakes out his locks like a restive dog. "Well?" he asks.

Hux studies his face. Perhaps it's the odd, arched eyebrows or the way his faint moustache follows his mouth down at the corners, but he seems quite sullen. "Were you expecting me to scream, 'Behold the monster'?"

Ren's shoulders slump just slightly, and he takes a seat next to her. "Are you satisfied?"

"Never in this life. But I will hold to my agreement; no more antagonism for the day."

"Just the day?"

"We'll renegotiate tomorrow."

Ren shifts his position on the bench, placing his hands in his lap. "That's...acceptable."

It's easier not to look at each other. Hux searches the sky, debating the necessity of thinking up a topic of conversation. Silence is tactically desirable for a number of reasons. It gives nothing away; it drives your opponent to speak; it makes people feel very awkward, which is the most reliable way to get them to want to placate you. Hux vaguely feels that this is the kind of social situation in which she's expected to say something first, however. Anyway, who knows what kind of awful drivel might come out of Ren's mouth if she doesn't say something?

She points to a cluster of bright spots in the center of the viewscreen, all barely distinguishable from each other. "Do you see that planet cluster?"

Ren squints. "No. Which one?"

"Dead center." She frames the stars with her fingers and brings her head close in to Ren's, adjusting her hands to keep the cluster in her visual field. "See it now?"

Ren turns his head towards her. She can feel his warm breath on her jaw, his hair brushing her cheek. She can feel his dark brown eyes on hers and she flicks her pale green eyes away. "I still can't see anything," he whispers.

"It would be easier if you turned your eyes towards the viewscreen, Ren."

"Of course." He retreats a few inches, leaving cool air next to her skin. "I see them now."

"That's the Hosnian system," she says. "Five planets orbiting in perfect symmetry around a yellow star."

Ren clears his throat. "They're beautiful. Is that where you're from?"

"No," Hux says. "I've never been. But in a few months, I'm going to blow them all up." She envisions the brilliant explosion, its scorching light reaching to all corners of the universe. Every sentient eye in the galaxy will turn to the sky, and every sentient being in the galaxy will fear the work of her hands. Hux can't help letting a smile spread across her face. She almost feels the warmth spread outside of her body, like a supernova. "Speaking freely helped. I feel much better." She pats Ren's hand and leaves.

Not op, but,

a history of shooting first gahhhhhhhh, you are LOVELY, nonnie

and

The general is barely conscious and with labored breaths mutters curses into Kylo's shoulder about how much of a kriffing violent child he is all while weakly clutching to his clothes. I can picture this SO WELL

Interesting! Kylo's and Hux's reactions make sense to me. I like that Han's not a bad guy, just desperate. Doubt he thought it through.

I like this part the best:
The sneer that crosses Hux' face communicates what he thinks about that. But that look is wiped away as he catches sight of the hesitation warring on Kylo's face.

On a crackier fic I'd joke about that being an A+ supervillain date, but this is honestly some really interesting character interaction. Ren, with his vague threats, specific threats, and ever-present tension. Hux, with her chillingly charismatic small-talk about interplanetary genocide.

They're terrible, I love them, I love the way you write them.
Looking forward to more!

OP HERE. I loved this. This was so intense and beautiful and a great read. I also loved how Hux remained a little shit even though he was in trouble.

Thank you so much for taking my prompt.

*Whew!* I backtracked over it and was like 'oh dear hopefully this the development of Rey's raging crush and accidently-on-purpose engine innuendo makes sense'.
And it gives me eyestrain to read smushed-up dialogue too, so...

Awww... this is nice. It's going to be fun to see it going dark!
Also, where was this when I finished watching the OT for the first time?!?
Naming the boy Ben.... I hope it turns out that it's the name of Han's uncle. Only Luke knew Obi-Wan as Ben. Leia knew of him as Obi-Wan and I think that Han didn't pay much attention to the old man smuggling the young blond kid off planet.
I can't wait for you to get your AO3 account and I can follow the story there! No pressure, but I expect I'm going to love reading this for months and months :)

Look, I will be honest with you: my heart is broken that Poe does, in fact, vape.

Otherwise this is some of the best dialogue I've read in fandom. I have friends who write for TV whose dialogue is not nearly as witty. You are a goddamn treasure, and I'm psyched you linked to your AO3 account so I can read everything else you've ever touched.

I too am absolutely loving this. Fem!Hux is a severe delight. And so is your Kylo, though his severity is more from him being awkward and odd (the dejarik line is possibly one of my favourite Kylo lines from fic).

I'm camping out on this thread now.
