I... kinda need more of this?? I need more nesting Hux smoothly rationalizing his space-dragon weirdness, "oh look Kylo here's your new bed, in the highest room, in the tallest tower, on a spaceship, because reasons. Sensible and logical reasons."

I want to write something for this, but quite frankly I don't have the time. I might be able to post a scattered scene or two, but - I don't really have much free time to work on stories right now.

AN: Previous anon poster; I love this idea, but I don't really have the time to write it out the way I'd like to. This is all I've written of the idea so far; I might add something down the line, but it someone wants to take this and run with it - feel free to do so, just credit me, please.

Broken Crown

The sudden query takes him off-guard.

Hux pauses in the middle of the corridor, blinking at the technician who’s suddenly accosted him. His night had proceeded in its usual fashion, except it’s the first time he’s managed to eat a full meal for the first time in what feels like years.

The curly-haired blonde – a radar technician, apparently – is, according to the camera team following him about, starring in a holo-production launched by the First Order’s Publicity team. Something about a day in the life of an everyday functionary. Hux should have been informed, but he finds it curiously difficult to care about the perceived lack of oversight.

“What do I think of Kylo Ren?” The General repeats the question, frowning to himself.

What does he think of Kylo Ren? Hux mulls over the question, lets it drift, delicate and snowflake-fine, on the dark, dark waters of his soul. Kylo Ren is – moody. Impetuous. Turbulent. Remarkably effective whenever he sets his mind to attaining an actual accomplishment, but such occurrances are few and far between. A child, essentially, with a child’s tantrums and fits of temper.

Kylo Ren hasn’t hurt him (yet).

The tech is waiting impatiently, and Hux gives the man the only answer that he can. “He is a Knight of Ren. Master of the Knights of Ren.” He corrects himself.

(Ren would see this interview. Ren would know – but Hux hasn’t spoken anything but the truth. And it is the truth – Kylo is a Ren. And that is the sole piece of information that Hux needs or cares to know about the man.)

The blonde seems – surprised.

The technician is in Hux’s office the next cycle, fingers wire-deep in a wall panel as he works on fixing the room’s illuminators. They flicker hardly enough to be noticeable, but it’s still a distraction.

Hux is vaguely sure that the lights began to misbehave after Ren (the first one, not the masked manchild stalking the halls of the Finalizer) hurled him against the wall hard enough to snap his collarbone. It hadn’t been important at the time, but it would still be nice enough to have his office in proper functional order once again.

The company, however, could use a little work.

“I heard that Kylo Ren is a really good strategist.”

“Mm.” Hux answers distractedly as he works on his data-slate.

“AND a great flier!”

“Mm-hm.”

“I heard that he’s a better fighter then Captain Phasma! And he has a lightsaber! Lightsabers are cool!”

“Mm.”

“I heard that people think that he should be the one in charge of the Finalizer!” Not you; the words go unsaid, but Hux hears them anyway.

“Have they? They have a point.” Hux is so very tired. But the Finalizer is – no. No, the Finalizer was never his; his first Ren made that quite clear a long time ago. He is disposable. Replaceable. The ship is not; the ship is in service to the Supreme Leader, the ship belongs to his lord and Master, and Hux is – Hux is nothing.

There’s a sudden silence in the office; Hux looks up, blinking, only to catch the gap-jawed expression of utter incredulity on the technician’s face.

He watches for a long moment, head tilting in case the other man does anything interesting (he doesn’t) before returning to work.

He dreams of Ren that night.

For some time when you aren't so busy and happen to write something else:

blonde = feminine
blond = masculine
Matt = the character's name as clearly displayed on his name tag where Hux would certainly be able to read it

I don't particularly think that Hux really cares about 'the technician's' name.

You credit Anons by linking the original post and not pretending that you wrote the whole thing when you take inspiration or fragments of someone else's work.

"Ren the first one" is not Matt.

He's also not blonde.

"Ren the first one" is not Matt.

Now that's an interesting non sequitur. What does it have to do with the fill?

Hux not taking an interest in the specific identity of the technician the First Order PR department are disrupting his shipboard operations to follow around with a camera crew, in blatant opposition to operational security? No, he wouldn't care who that technician was at all.

I like this. It's such a generic behind-the-scenes view of that SNL skit that it could go literally anywhere from that point!

Was this posted on the wrong prompt? It's good, but I don't see how it relates?
