Author Note: Shorter but more frequent updates it is! I haven't forgotten this fill, and part 3b will hopefully be up soon!
Not surprisingly, Kylo Ren wrecked any notions of a plan.
The Jedi's speeder had just reached Coruscant, and they were aware of a crowd not too far off, eagerly anticipating the arrival of some important guests to the city. Perhaps it was because of the eagerness and anticipation from the crowd slipping into the Force, perhaps it was because the Jedi had underestimated what it would take to keep their prisoner unconscious, but Kylo Ren's eyes suddenly snapped open, fully aware.
Obi-wan howled as the prisoner lashed out, the Force set to hurt, set to cause pain, as Kylo Ren wretched the Jedi's mind opened and began digging. Anakin had not heard his mentor scream in such agony, and the attack was so sudden and unexpected he swerved and lost control. The speeder went spinning towards the direction of the crowd, starting the many other vehicles along the way. Before Anakin could react he felt some invisible force blast against him, and he fell forward, losing control again and helpless as they went crashing forward into the crowd.
“Master!” Anakin split his attention, trying to stop the speeder and forcibly urging bystanders out of the way. The Jedi felt more than saw the Sith's light saber, previously in Obi-wan's hands, lift and fly backwards to its owner. Now armed with his weapon and Obi-wan's knowledge, Kylo Ren wasted no time escaping.
The cracking red cut through the roof of the speeder like a knife through butter, and Kylo Ren leaped out of his temporary prison onto a street...in front of the crowd. A crowd standing behind red ropes, matching the red carpet he was standing on, a few of them with recording vids.
All of them were looking at him.
His light saber was sizzling with energy and he was unmasked, earlier he'd looked into Obi-wan's mind and ripped out enough to confirm he was in the past. Kylo Ren couldn't afford to have himself show up in history's records, he lifted his free hand up.
Every device capable of recording his image promptly exploded. Several screams broke out among the crowd, a few of the devices seemed to have caught fire.
“Sith!”
Kylo Ren turned around just in time, his light saber met Anakin's and the Force shrieked in their ears. Anakin tried to strike him, again and again, only for Kylo Ren to anticipate and block his every move. At a particularly determined attack, Kylo Ren chose to jump backwards in the air, landing on top a resting speeder.
“Enough!” it was odd for him to say the next words, “I don't wish to fight you.”
“You hurt my master,” Anakin breathed, no one had managed such a feat before. This Sith had made his mentor scream in a way he would never forget, and Anakin didn't want to hear such pain in Obi-wan's voice again.
"Nothing long lasting," The time traveler did not like being rebranded Ben again, but he could see the wisdom of using such a common name over the more memorable Kylo Ren. "Do not mistake my mercy for weakness, Jedi, you are not yet ready to face me."
"No, but I never intended to fight you alone."
Movement at the corner of Ben's eye had him whipping around to face his attacker: Obi-wan, already recovered from the mind probe, launching a failed surprise attack from the side. Their weapons crashed and flashed white hot, and Ben hissed like a beast at the other's face. Obi-wan kept Ben locked in position, pushing his light saber against his opponent, as if trying to knock him off the speeder. Anakin let out a triumphant cry as he rushed forward, his own weapon raised.
"You over estimate yourself!"
"Like you haven't done the same!" Ben looked over at Anakin before suddenly dropping flat on the speeder. Anakin didn't waste time looking quizzically behind him, he simply did the same. Just in time as several projectiles went zooming past his head and towards Obi-wan, who took the chance with his freed light saber to deflect them. The projectiles looked to be bits of metal, ripped chunks, broken bars...and some very familiar restraints.
