I've always imagined the Hux's as either abusive/distant/manipulative father + depressed mother, or true!believer/admired/still evil father + manipulative/more evil/loves only baby Hux mother for some reason. And in this case, Hux needed a political backer to ascend the throne, and a helping mother figure to further control Ben. So manipulative mama it is.
Mama is just helping her darling baby boy get a stronger holder over the unstable force user who may be missing his own mama. So unstable, but so useful and oddly adorable. And he helps Brendol take lunch almost everyday and sleep more regularly too! No no Ben you don't need your own mama, mama Hux is all you need.
Also yay at the feeling of Ben not being quite all there carried through. He is mostly trying protect his own finally comfortable status quo right now, even if he doesn't quite understand that either.
(Darn I wish I know how to write Brendol's mother in a longer standalone. She is probably scarier than Brendol.)
