It's possible Hux is floating. Not like during grav simulations they do at the academy, those always gave him a migraine, but more like he's hovering. It's surprisingly pleasant to not touch the ground. His eyes are closed, or it's really dark, he can't tell, but it's not very important. He's much more curious about the floating.

Something is tapping his shoulder. Maybe it's been tapping for a while? The pressure of the taps slowly increases and he can't figure out why any of the other students would be bothering him.

He opens his eyes.

He's not at the academy, he realizes. Hux is lying on the floor of Kylo Ren's bedroom, which is pathetically furnished and really the floor is probably the most comfortable choice in here. He's here because Ren had somehow managed to get a hold of some Astro and Hux may have invited himself along. He used to indulge while he was in the academy but he hadn't touched it again until now.

The tapping switches to his face. He tries to swat the offending thing away but his hand is too light, still floating even though he's all on the ground, and it flies too far. He hits his forearm against whatever is hitting him and he sandwiches Ren's arm against the floor. Hux rolls his head to the side to look at Ren, who is looking straight at him with overblown pupils.

"Hux," Ren says, his voice slightly husky. "Hux, Hux, listen."

"Hm?" Hux says, closing his eyes again. He's still floating when he closes his eyes, he'd like to stay there.

"Hux, no, listen to me," Ren says.

"I am, I am," Hux assures.

"Okay, okay, so. So, do you. Do you. Do you think, right? Do you think that they have cats in space?"

Hux stops. He wasn't doing anything, but he can still feel himself stopping. Slowly he opens one eye and looks at Ren. Ren is still staring at him.

"Ren," Hux starts. He's more experienced with Astro, he thinks from somewhere far away, and Ren hasn't experienced anything. His training stopped him from even the meager escapades Hux went on when he was younger.

He's forgotten what he was saying. "What?" he asks.

"Cats," Ren says again. Oh yes.

"We're in space right now and we have cats," Hux says. "I mean, we don't have cats but we have the capability of cats. What could be stopping us from having them? I'm sure they do, somewhere." Hux gestures out at the 'somewhere', which is off by Ren's shoulder. His hand swoops so delicately. Space, hands are weird.

"No, no, no." Ren shakes his head, rolling it back and forth on the floor next to Hux. Oh, they're lying next to each other. That's nice. "No, Hux, no. I mean, I mean, do you think there are cats that are, like, in space. Space Cats. Off in the void of space, just. Catching space mice?" Ren laughs at that and Hux is struck by how good he looks laughing. He looks even younger. He looks like someone happy. Ren grins at Hux and Hux smiles back, presses their shoulders together before looking back up at the ceiling.

"Maybe cats made of Dark Matter?" Hux suggests.

"Yes! Maybe we can train them."

"Why don't we just get an actual cat?"

"Because they aren't as cool as a space cat," Ren says, like that's not ridiculous. It's very ridiculous. Hux laughs at how ridiculous it is. He laughs and laughs and can't stop, and somewhere floating next to him he can hear Ren laughing too.

As someone who ponders the existence of space whales (be it high or sober), I thought this was awesome.
