I love cultureshock explanation fics where Finn, who's only ever had exposure to one culture, has a lot of questions about the default humanoid culture he observes around the Resistance base and Poe answers his questions as impartially and thoroughly as he can. But what if in addition to quizzing Poe, Finn finds that sometimes the best answers come from the more alien culutres, people who had to go through the same process of studying and intepreting the culture as Finn is now. So Finn might have lunch with Admiral Ackbar or L'ulo and ask what he thinks is a straightforward practical question, but tends to shock humans such as 'I understand there's different appropriate levels of hugs or other other display of friendliness, 'bear hug' or the one armed hug or a slap on the arm, for a given friendship or social circumstance, but where's the decoder ring? I thought people in the Republic hugged everyone all the time' and the alien will say 'Humans are weird about that and it varies from system to system. I might still have the spreadsheet I made when I was younger.' + He goes to them for advice about his relationship with Poe because they are less likely to get weird about his questions than the humans even if they don't always fully understand the human behaviors themselves. ++ Rey asks Chewbacca questions for the same reasons.
