Because of reasons, Snoke dies/disappears and/or his psychic hold on Kylo is severed.
Suddenly, Kylo doesn't have a voice in his head telling him what to do.
He realises many of the things he thought were his own mental processes were really being tampered with by Snoke - like, the light calls it's not painful! Snoke just inflicted pain whenever he noticed that was happening.
He sees the logic in some of the things he's done, but others have him like WTF WAS I THINKING?! Things like destroying consoles - now he knows THAT was all him because tantrums are literally the only thing that he could CHOOSE to do. But now he knows they're a dick thing to do.
He loves his mom and uncle! He was resentful of his dad but like... MURDER?!
Everything's a mess and he doesn't know how to cope. He's glad he can make his own choices but he hates the clarity.
He knows his mom would believe him, but, he also kinda misses Snoke.
