For life in the Resistance, I wanted to show that he had been there a while without going into great detail, mostly because I tend to get caught up in my descriptions and then find that I've written 5,000 words about Poe showing Finn around and Rey practicing her Jedi training on the both of them, and nothing whatsoever about Finn's reconditioning. And I could be reading him wrong, but I thought it fit him to be defiant in the end. He spent a lot of TFA running (or trying to run) away, but in the end when he had to he faced the big bad head on, no clue what he was doing but determined to fight anyway. So I think he would be defiant, if not as witty or controlled as his other friends. :)
