Imagine Ben never becomes Kylo Ren. General Hux sees Ben for the first time while fighting against the resistance, and is instantly smitten. From that moment on the First Order has orders to not only not hurt Ben, but to protect him from any dangers. Eventually Hux steps up his game by sending unusual gifts, and randomly kidnapping Ben to go on "dates," (he always brings him back home afterwards).
