As so often happens, Finn and Poe (or Finn, Poe, and Rey) are captured (your choice as to who) and Poe is tortured for information - and/or because he was mouthing off. Force-sensitive!Finn is trying to figure out how to escape, but he's also trying to keep Poe's spirits up by being a soothing presence in his mind, and shielding him from what's happening to his body. (If Rey is there, it can be either or both of them, of course.)

OP prefers no permanent mangling (non-con is okay), and lots of Stormpilot or JediStormPilot comfort to wash it all down.
