So sometime after the events of the movie, Snoke decides that Hux has outlived his usefulness and has Kylo kill him. Kylo's not thrilled about this at the time, but thinks that breaking whatever attachment he had to Hux is going to make him stronger.
He is all sorts of wrong.
Not only is the guilt he feels practically unbearable, but the fact of it is he just really misses Hux. He wakes up every morning and it hits him anew that Hux is really gone. He stalks up to the bridge of the Finalizer and sees a new officer in charge and just feels nauseated because they're not Hux and it's never going to be Hux standing there again and Kylo did that.
He's slowly coming to realise how he really felt about Hux, and he can't even mourn properly or lament what could have been because he's the reason Hux is dead...
