Ben Solo has had numerous close brushes with the First Order. Fight, sometimes get captured, break out or break someone out, regular Resistance stuff. As such, he has gotten somewhat familiar with General Hux.
The fact are these: they are ennemies who are on friendly-like last name basis, spend a lot of time glaring at each other with their faces two inches apart, and somewhere along the line ideological discussions and threat/bravado have started to look suspiciously like flirting. They may have almost-kissed once. Or ten times. Never actually happened - there was always an alarm that went off or someone entering the room.
The Resistance is uncomfortable. The First Order is uncomfortable. Kylo and Hux are basically playing flirting chicken: first one who actually adresses this weird yet compelling dynamic loses.
