So, Hux likes to give regular motivational speeches to the crew, which he's rather proud of and believes they instill a great sense of purpose in his men. He ensures that he's always impeccably groomed, that they will find his appearance inspiring. He thinks himself to be, if not loved, atleast rather respected by his men.

Then, during a fight, Kylo uses the force to show Hux what all the 'loyal' officers and troopers really think of their general.

Pilots fantasizing about better things Hux could be doing with that mouth than that nonsense he spouts. Trusted officers think him a hilariously vain and pompous shit who's ego outstrips his talent, who got his position because of his father's name and Snoke liking his pretty face. Even his Stormtroopers, linking up their comlinks so they can riff on his speeches, laughing at how ridiculously hammy and red-faced he gets during particularly rousing ones.

Hux's devastated reaction is actually enough to make Kylo feel sorry for him for once.
