Not trying to prompjack, but I thought you were going to take this in a completely different direction - Luke goes beserk as a one-off thing, while Kylo is taking the long walk into the darkness, so Kylo agrees to take on the blame for the massacre in exchange for something. (Possibly mind-reading and then erasing Luke's memory of having committed it?) IDK.
