(This is amazing and if, as it seems, you have more to go, I look forward to savoring it. I loved how the beginning intertwined the fairytale-flashback-nightmare and then we get snatches of the clones. (OMG, 44 that wanted to live and 03 that wanted to die, aaaaaaaaaaah in the best of ways.) I also love the symmetry of both sides feeling their cause is Just because stories are usually told from only Only Our Side Is Just. Brendol's mother is the very best, holding parties that are really traitorous meetings, and how she is kind to Ben and probably knows very well the dual role of prize and helpmate, and how all of the giant rotations of political spheres is entirely above Ben's head but he knows who has been kind to him and he's just soaking it up like a sponge and trying not to mess it up. And how he's oddly educated having only the minds around him and stale programs to browse, and, and, and...)
(And entirely, *entirely* unrelated I now want a fic all about Brendol's mother because Brendol rhymes nicely with Grendel and as it turned out Grendel was only half so scary as his mom whether or not she's played by Angelina Jolie.)
