(I don't know if this really fills it but I'll try to move the timeline along) ----- The thing was, FN-2187 knew things. Things, perhaps, that no one should know. He knew why their caregiver was so angry all the time. But when he tried to comfort her, saying that he was sure that her partner would be reassigned to her soon, he was sent to reconditioning. Most knowledge was not nearly so simple. The first time FN-2187 met Kylo Ren, he was bombarded by images of a cape and control panel and a body wreathed in flame, anguished screams in the background. Over time, the instructors noticed. He was given extra tactical assignments, asked to read over Resistance profiles and predict what they would do next, who would rise to the top. He was never openly acknowledged for his work, but the instructors would huddle and whisper whenever he mentioned someone. That was when FN-2187 learnt of names. FN-2187 was notorious for being bad at designations and names. When questioned by his squadmates, he replied "Everyone is different and you can distinguish between troopers without designations'. The mess hall whispered for days afterwards. To the extent of his understanding, FN-2187 had no nickname. This was correct. FN-2187 had a title. Pathfinder.
