Finn finds Rey working on the Millennium Falcon. Chewbacca isn’t on board as far as Finn can tell. Rey’s rewiring something in the control panel in front of the copilot’s seat. She turns when she sees him come on, but she doesn’t smile.
“Hey, I - uh- I realized we haven’t spent a lot of time together lately so I thought I’d just come hang out, if you’re not too busy,” Finn says. Rey twists two wires together, then puts the casing back over them.
“Did you have to ask Poe’s permission to come visit?” She asks, looking at her hands.
“Did I? What?”
Rey looks up at Finn, searching his face for something. Whatever it is she’s looking for, Finn thinks she doesn’t find it because she stands up and moves closer to him.
“I don’t know what he’s told you but you don’t owe him anything. If this is about your place in the resistance, you kriffing earned it with what you did saving him, getting BB8 to safety, and helping with Starkiller,” Rey says.
“I don’t think I owe him anything. He doesn’t think I owe him anything,” Finn replies, confusion evident in his voice.
“I don’t know how it worked when you were a stormtrooper, but just because he’s a higher rank doesn’t mean you have to - you have to,” Rey pauses, then her concerned expression shifts to something angrier and she finishes “do things for him.”
“Rey, I have no idea what you’re trying to get at. Poe isn’t making me do anything,” Finn replies.
“You don’t have to lie to me. I saw you and him the other day - when he was - look I know what it means when someone does that to you. I avoided it on Jakku. I’ve made men leave women alone before and I can do that for you. I can make him leave you alone. I know I’m not done training but I can go scare him off before I return to master Skyewalker,” Rey is half pleading with him when she offers to scare Poe off.
Finally something clicks in Finn’s mind.
“Rey - is this about Poe and I being together? I thought you knew we were changing our relationship - I mean we’re not being super obvious about it but I thought - you pick up so much I thought you already knew,” Finn says reaching out for Rey’s hand.
“Thought I knew what? That Poe wanted to - to use you? You’re worth so much more than that,” Rey’s hand is shaking with anger.
“I thought you knew I was halfway in love with him,” Finn says in a quiet voice. He squeezes her hand and continues, “Do that force thing you’ve told me about. Where you see what I’m thinking. I’ll think about Poe.”
